OCI on auto's driven 5-7K miles annually

Thanks all - I should have given a bit more details on usage. I use the Nissan for work - 8 miles each way. No stop and go and the trip home includes about 4 miles highway at 60 - 65 mph. Again, this is except for the winter when there is snow on the ground. It hardly ever is used for...

OCI on auto's driven 5-7K miles annually

Hi, I put about 5K miles annually on my Nissan SE-R and maybe 7K on the Cherokee. I use PP 5w-30 in the Nissan and 10w-30 in the Jeep. Back "when" I use to dump oil in 4 months but now go 6 months in each vehicle. That still, there isn't a whole lot of miles on the oil. Am I nuts to do it that...

How often you change your ATF

Changing the filter on the Cherokee is sorta a PITA - you have to take the crossmember off. I did the first filter and fluid change at 30K and another just recently at 70K. But at every oil change (which I do at 6 months), I dump the sump and put 4 qts. of fresh fluid in. I'll probably do the...

    Check your local Wal-Mart !

Maybe you haven't but I've been screwed over by local merchants for many years before other places (like Wal Mart and the internet) became available to buy stuff. Yes, if I'd had a local Mom and Pop store that took care of me, I'd probably support them - but I don't. A prime example - we had a...

Which Dexron-III ATF would you choose?

I just spent the better part of a day (don't ask) on doing a filter change on my Jeep Cherokee. Vehicle has 70K miles and the last time I did a filter was at 15K miles. I've done about 4 sump dumps (4qts) in the interm. There was no sludge in the pan and very little attached to the magnets. What...

Best deals on 15w40 that anyone has seen?

I see the Delo 400 at WM is 10 something for a gallon vs. the 12 something it use to be. That's a good deal.

OEM Transmission filter kit or other ?

Specs say 75W-90. Can I use 80W-90 instead?

Maybe only if it's used in real cold temperatures. I think the difference in minor for "government work."

    My oil report - 02 Sentra 1.8, 147k miles

Wow, high zinc for those oils IMO. Certainly a plus.

    castrol syntec 20w50

20w-50 GTX has IIRC only 800 ppm zinc. I don't buy any Castrol oils anymore. I use to run GTX in the Corvettes, the Camaro and the Alfa. I run Delo 400 now in all of them. The Harley takes 2 1/2 (I think) qts. I spring for the Mobil 1 V Twin 20w-50 and change it once a year. With my riding...

    Pennzoil YB Past & Present - Rumors/Facts

I have a '69 Corvette that I bought in 1973. I used Penzoil 10w-40 exlcusively in the car until the late 80's at which point it was put into storage (until 2002). I read about the sludge problems and always thought I was just lucky cause I knew I had a clean valve train area. Always changed my...

    M1, 5w-30, 2419/73432, Nissan SE-R 2 ltr.

Thanks Drew, No, it wasn't a cold sample but probably not a real "hot" one either. Car mainly gets uses for a 16 mile round trip to work vehicle. The lack of extended highway miles probably contributes to the fuel diluation.
