    Favorite Oil Brand for OPE

My Kohler 7000 series (725cc) manual says to run the break in oil for 10 hours, then drain and fill with 10w-30 conventional. It specifically says not to use syn or semi-syn. I put in Ace Hardware brand 10w-30. I don't know who makes it. It has the API seal, SN, takes 2 quarts. I have run that...

    Current best oil?

In Virginia going 130 on any highway would get you jail time. Here in Maryland, just a massive fine and license suspension.

    Death of Conventional

My Kohler 745cc air cooled twin in my OPE specifically calls for conventional oil in the owners manual. It specs 10w-30 conventional and says not to use synthetic. Why? I have no idea. Not interested in the science of it, I just want my yard to look good and I don't want to replace this mower...

    best budget tire

I would check for tires in your budget on the Tire Rack or similar site. Sometimes particular brands have sales on old stock. Walmart has Cooper Discoverers in that size at 74 bucks each. That's a good deal.

    best budget tire

I looked for tires online for about a week, looked at indy mechanics, chains, big box stores, and online retailers. Best price I saw was at the wholesale clubs like Costco/Sam's/BJs. Uniroyals and Bridgestones. I wouldn't drive on or let my family drive on dangerously cheap tires.

    Worst accident you've witnessed

50 East heading towards Ocean City, MD, very heavy traffic past where the Bay Bridge deposits everyone onto Kent Island. I was in the center lane and all the cars around me were moving to the left and right lanes. Something was obstructing the center lane. Finally the truck in front of me moved...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Still working my way through the 11 jugs of PP 10w-30 I got on end of year clearance at AAP, back in 2018. I have 4 unopened ones left and one frankenjug that has some QSUD 10w-30, some M1 5w-30, and some Magnatec 10w-30, all the unused remnants from previous changes that accumulates in a single...

My new Cub Cadet XT2 LX46

Over winter I run my Cub Cadet's tank dry. Just let it idle until it's out of fuel. Then I put a shot of Stabil in the tank to swish around with the fuel remnants. Come March I put a half gallon of fresh gas in it, fires right up. Kohler 7000 series motor. Never had any fuel dilution issues.

    CVT Fluid recommendations

It was a fleet vehicle for the first 63k miles. Now it has 121k miles and hasn't had trans issues (knock on wood) but has developed a whine from the rear diff. Probably need to change the fluid in that as well. I hope the fluid was changed under fleet ownership, but it was changed in 2016 at...

    CVT Fluid recommendations

Update: Process is so simple even I could do it. 19mm socket, bucket, funnel levels of simple. Getting the car on the ramps was literally the most complex part of the process. Drained some BLACK and GNARLY CVT fluid from the car. Since Amazon sells Castrol in a 6 pack and less than 6 quarts...

    2015 2.7L Tacoma and towing

For what it's worth, my dad and I towed a 73 VW thing on a 2 axle trailer from Massachusetts to Maryland in his 2WD crew cab 2013 Tacoma 2.7, no sweat. 70 mph in traffic, there was never a point where the Taco didn't have enough grunt. We towed 8+ hours at highway speeds. We even got a flat tire...

    Japanese Auto Styling

Some, not all. Honda as a brand has lost it's way. In the early 00s Honda/Acura vehicles were across the board extremely appealing in terms of exterior styling. Then they went insane and now the Civic looks like an anime robot. Toyotas, save for the deliberately weird Prius, are pretty...

    CVT Fluid recommendations

I just bought 6 quarts of Castrol CVT off amazon. Not going to drop the pan, just extract via the dipstick and maybe follow up in a few thousand miles with another change. The fluid is cheap when you stray from the Nissan factory stuff.
