MACTFORDEDGE on FB and YT has done 10k OCIs on his Ford Edge with dozens of off the shelf oils as well as boutique oils. Almost all highway, OCI is usually 2-3 months. He even mixed 6 different oils on one run. The formulation did not perform well, viscosity increased, oxidation and increase in...
I obtained 500 samples from BlackStone Labs for my engine, took average of all samples covering 10 years. I then tested AC Delco (Mobil) and Supertech for several OCIs, been using Amsoil SS for the past 2 years. My iron levels are 1/4 when using the other brands. Aluminum, Chromium, Lead, Copper...
Here is pics of my 2.4L Ecotec GDI pistons, running Amsoil SS 0W-40 and Top Tier 93 Octane, non ethanol fuel. 90k miles. The low volatility helps in keeping carbon build up to a minimum. Performing daily Italian Tune Ups helps keep carbon to a minimum.
My 2.4l Ecotec has 175K miles, running Amsoil SS 0W-40, 10-12k drain intervals, 2 micron bypass filter every 2 years. Wear is 4x lower than running standard group 3 Ac Delco or SuperTech oil running 5k drain intervals per oil analysis. Still has factory compression/leak down. Gets 32mpg and I...
The additive packages in premium fuels are better formulated than any off the shelf fuel system cleaner. At least this brand is not made up of mostly spent petroleum oil. Many are made of high amounts of used/recycled oil. Rule of thumb, keep oil out of your fuel and fuel out of your oil.
Borescope. The pattern of carbon build up matches the spray pattern. I confirmed with using various fuel additives that would clean the piston down to the bare aluminum piston top just in the contact area of the spray pattern and leave a hard carbon layer around it.
It costs more to produce fuel without ethanol, plus ethanol is heavily subsidized giving it an unfair price point. I lived in Europe 13 years ago when they charged $6-7 a gallon for regular, more now. 91 octane E0 in my area runs about $3.50, $3.90 for 93 octane. check out www.pure-gas.org
Most people never come to these forums, rarely keep a new vehicle far beyond the factory warranty or yet beyond 10 years and only care about when the OLM tells them to change and where the best price on the next quick oil change. My method is directed at enthusiasts and those wanting to keep...
The treatment depends on the source and reason for the oil consumption. If the valve stem seals are hard and leaking, they need to be replaced. If the PCV system is not performing well or partially clogged, then cleaning and repair is needed. If rings are gummed up and stuck, some top end...
