    Coolant testing

I don’t think I’d call it grey or mud. It’s brown and slimy. However, I change the oil frequently and the engine doesn’t get all black (oil stays pretty clean) due to the natural gas, so maybe that’s why it’s not black. The feel of it is something else. It doesn’t clean off well with soap or a...

    Coolant testing

It’s a small Mitsubishi engine. It is natural gas powered. It’s basically a small car engine. 4cyl. I think about 1.6 liter. Yes, it’s entirely possible that the wrong antifreeze was put in it. However, I don’t know how to verify that or what to do if that is indeed what happened. I was also...

    Coolant testing

Is there a service to test antifreeze? I'm thinking something like there is for oil where you send in a sample and they tell you what's in it (contaminants). I have a liquid cooled generator. The coolant has some form of goop (highly technical term) in it. I've flushed the coolant and it's...

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

Correct, it has a thermostat. I think it turns on when the temp falls below 80 degrees. That seems way to high for me, so I unplug it most of the year. Basically run the heater from November to March. It draws 500 watts.

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

Not sure if it's two or four pole, but the data on the attached plate says RPM is 3600.

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

Thanks for the input. I ended up getting this: http://www.wolfshead.com/extreme-duty-synthetic-blend-15w40-qt.html It‘s Wolfs Head 15W40 synthetic blend. I think next year (change oil every year if I have an outage that goes more than a day) I’ll see if I can find that Valvoline that Mark...

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

This is the type of thing that is my concern. It leads me to option 2. - Just get Mobil 1 in the 10W40 and call it a day.

    15W-40 Oil in a generator?

I have a generator that is liquid cooled and is run by a small 4 cylinder engine. It runs off of natural gas. I'm looking to change the oil and the recommended oil is 15W40. I'd like to switch over to a synthetic oil. Any 15W40 I find is labeled as being for a diesel engine. Not sure what forum...
