1 FMF, I have calmed my fear of the noise. No one who hears the mower running has commented on the noise that only I can hear. Also, I think if there was an abnormal knocking noise coming from inside my engine then the oil would definitely have more debris than just the normal aluminum filings...

I would look for a split in the plastic line or bulb. Sounds like there is a leak in the vacuum not letting fuel to be drawn into the carb. That or the check valve that the priming system would have to have is not working correctly. Sorry i cannot be specific but I don't have a service manual...
