    frustrated with job market

A newbie at a USPS sorting facility is going to be night shift for a while. OP is a shoe-in for custodian though, and that's well-known as the best (cushiest) job in the PO. Word of warning from someone who spent a couple months as a mailman: experiences at USPS vary wildly by location...

Engine blew up in the shop.

There's a Get Smart "would you believe..." bit in there somewhere but I haven't had enough coffee yet to come up with it.

Another technological mess on a newer Jetta.

Our Subaru currently has no (useable) radio because the touchscreen is failing. It's an extremely common failure item on Gen 5 Legacy/Outback models. I've never before had a radio go bad on me. Luckily, this gen has separate HVAC controls. However, I do actually appreciate the automatic...

Engine blew up in the shop.

Also, add 5 "bad time" bonus points if this is an X-Type.

Engine blew up in the shop.

This seems the most sensible to me. Fixing AC on a 200k mile Jag makes me suspect this guy's going to be a ****, though. In my experience, the combo of luxury brand and low value generally means a bad time. That said, this is probably going to be a bad time no matter what.

Why do people buy 1 quart bottles of oil?

I don't exclusively buy single quart bottles, but I absolutely prefer them. Easier to pour, easier to keep track of (in terms of figuring out fractions left in the container), easier to throw in the trunk for top-ups/emergencies. Plus, the Trailblazer takes 4.8 quarts. Kind of annoying. And...

    April lubricants industry market update.

I'd be curious to see this information for Dexos 1 Gen 2. Given how recent gen 3 is (2022), there are quite a few vehicles on the road specifying gen 2.

Local Wal-Mart turned away oil change customer... no oil filters in stock for his vehicle.

I've worked at two Walmart TLEs. Unless something has changed in the last 15 years or so, I can promise you that wouldn't happen. The customer can walk over there, if they'd like too. Also, if the Walmart doesn't have the cheap filter and offers an upgrade, the customer will absolutely demand...

Rental car review - 2026 Chevy Trax LT

I daily a '22 Trailblazer, and have been interested in the Trax, too. So, I'll throw in my $0.02 in case it helps anyone. Well yeah, that's its role ;). I wish new cars didn't start so expensive, but here we are. I doubt the Mitsu would be up to your standards. That thing is ancient and was...

Stopped by an auto parts store in Costa Rica - Thin oil bros, continue at your own risk.

Those '90s' Sentras were made well into the late 2000s or even 2010s for the South and Central American markets. I always find it fascinating when manufacturers do that.

My experience with vehicles over the last 40 years

I don't know if I can narrow down my thoughts, so: - 1982? Pontiac J2000/Sunbird convertible. Not sure exactly what the thing was called; it had a nameplate on the dash that literally had "Sunbird" glued over the top of "J2000," but I believe the title was still "J2000". It was mostly rust...

My experience with vehicles over the last 40 years

That "fancy" radio is what our 2018 Legacy has. They don't "die," but go berserk and start changing stations by themselves and hitting other buttons without anyone actually touching it. It's a common failure item, unfortunately.

The manual for my '22 Trailblazer pushes Dexos a bit more forcefully.

FORD warns BRONCO Sport and MAVERICK owners to STOP driving them

I don't know, this doesn't sound that terrible if you read past the headline. Some unknown number of vehicles may have had a suspension component assembled incorrectly. No known accidents have been caused, and the issue would've shown up early. Dealers will inspect and fix if necessary. This...

Newer 0w20 PCMOs dropping Dexos 1 Gen 3 approvals

What's funny is when I worked in the Walmart Tire and Lube express center, we didn't use Supertech. Standard oil changes were Quaker State. It wouldn't surprise me if Supertech was a loss-leader. Filters were (I'm pretty sure) Fram's orange can painted black.
