External ATF filter cut open with pictures

Something is not right here. The filter media should not be that dark, especially for the relatively short time it was in service with new ATF. Are you certain the fluid flow direction is correct, going in and out of the Derale filter housing?

2014 F150 intermittent low oil pressure alert at idle only

I changed out an Explorer sender/switch last week, with the same symptoms as you describe. It's very unnerving to have oil pressure fluctuate like that when you're out of town and many miles from home. This is the third oil pressure switch I've changed on various Fords in the last few years. I...

B17 crashed at Bradley Airport in Connecticut

I just heard the tower comm. They had climbed to about 800 feet and one of the pilots announced they had a "blow out" on number four engine, and needed to return to the airport. Not familiar with the term blow out in regards to a prop engine??? Maybe the pilot also flew turbines. Regardless, the...

Educate me: what's the point of a remote filter?

    O-470 Piston Engine high chromium

The iron and nickel are borderline high too. Might be a cam lobe wearing...? I'd do another test at 25 hours and see how it compares. How many hours on the engine? 2000 hour TBO?

Barb fittings and correct hose size?

I measured it again with my calibrated eyeballs, and it's indeed 3/8". I know what you mean, Eljefino. I think mfgs put 5/16" hose in both their 5/16 and 3/8 kits just to save a few pennies.

Barb fittings and correct hose size?

Good advice from all. I carry an emergency tool set in my vehicles, but extra hose, clamps, etc (and ATF) is a good idea. I bought some 3/8" ATF hose. It's Gates brand, rated for 400 psi and high temp. Surprisingly it's also made in the USA. Looks to be a good quality hose, with strong...

Barb fittings and correct hose size?

I have a remote filter kit that has 3/8" ID fittings, and a length of 5/16" hose. The hose will push on the fittings, but it's very tight and seems to be too small. I'm concerned the hose will split. My thoughts are that a 3/8" hose would be a much better fit. I also have an old ATF external...

Are these spark plugs still good?

Spark plugs have internal resistors that degrade over time. That's why a plug that looks good on the outside might be firing very weakly when it's under compression. Most plugs have a resistance of about 5K-8K ohms that's easy to check with a multimeter. If a plug tests substantially over the...

    Cam synchronizer may be chirping

My synchro failed at 55K miles on a 04 Ranger Edge 3.0. The good thing about the 3.0 is that the synchro is relatively easy to access and change. I too would recommend the MotorCraft part, and use the timing tool to set the synchro timing.
