    Tranny pan gasket

I don't know if the Windstar is the same, but my Mountaineer came with a reusable gasket on the tranny pan. It looked like a thick rubber gasket and was much easier to install and remove than the cork gaskets I have used on other vehicles.

    Chevy TrailBlazer

My parents have an 02 Trailblazer and after driving it a few times, I'll say I'm not a big fan of it. The tranny is terrible, mushy shifts and occasional slippage, even though it was rebuilt under warranty. The 4.2L engine is very fast and quiet, but all the power is on the top end. Compared to...

Dumb things people did to get fired where I work at

I work at a Target store and we've had a few people get fired for some pretty stupid things. About a year ago, a kid working in the electronics department thought he could get away with stealing a camera. His plan was to buy the camera, process the return himself, and still keep the camera...

Your Opinions Please! 5w20 Short Trip Oil?

I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer (Ford Explorer) with the 5.0L pushrod V8 with 68,000 miles and I run Mobil 1 0W-20 in it. I do occasional hourlong trips but I work less than two miles from home, so I thought this oil would be great. Still seems to be holding up fine, valvetrain seems to be...

Explorer Sport w/SOHO v6 4.0 will NOT idle

I'll second the IAC issue. I've heard that cleaning them is a temporary fix, and that a new IAC may be in order if the problem recurs shortly after cleaning it.

Did I get a funky tank of gas @ AM/PM?

Had the same problem on an old 4.0 Explorer I had. It would ping like crazy on Arco 87. Switch it to Chevron or Mobil gas, ran great, no pinging.

    Confused about K&N

When I bought my 2000 Mountaineer 5.0 V8 used in July of 2004, it was completely stock and got 12 mpg. I added a K&N air filter and MPG went up to 12.5 mpg. Not much of a difference but every little bit helps. I then decided to get a MAC intake kit (tube and cotton-gauze filter) and my gas...

Aonyone here use Gabriel VST struts?

I'd like to make that 3 votes for the MacControls, I've got them on my Mountaineer and very impressed with them. Nice and firm, yet controlled ride.

    Castrol oils spotted at Target

Anyway, I thought I'd pass around some info that I came across while at work last night. I work at a Target store, and noticed that there were 6 cases of various Castrol oils in the backroom that apparently had just come in. There was Castrol GTX $1.99 per quart, and High Mileage and Syntec...

Acetone In Fuel Said to Increase Mileage 15-35%

    Target closing out M1, $2.50

I work at a Target and we have Mobil 1 in the 5W-30, 10W-30, and 15W-50 for $3.89 per quart regular price. We also have Pennzoil in 5W-30, 10W-30, and 10W-40 for $1.69 per quart regular price. At our store, we had the Car and Driver brand 5W-30, 10W-30 and 30W on clearance for $.68 per quart...

    '99 Expy 100K Maintenance

Since my '00 Mountaineer V8 is fairly similar to your Expedition, I'll give you some suggestions based on what I have done. For the power steering, I like Mobil 1 ATF. I used 2 quarts and a turkey baster. Just suck out the fluid in the reservoir and fill with new fluid. Start the engine, turn...

    Favorite spark plugs?

I used Autolite Double Platinums on my Mountaineer and they work great.

All I can say is "wow".

    Oil change at Dealer?

I had a Ford dealer do an oil change on my 2000 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0 V8. The sticker under the hood and the owner's manual recommend 5W-30 for all temperatures. However, they used Motorcraft 5W-20 and a Motorcraft filter. Apparently, in 2001 when Ford started using 5W-20, they also okayed it...
