Havoline Synthetic performed well this morning...

Unfortunately, your Havoline sample was 5W30 which seemed to indicate different levels of Zinc and Calcium. Don't forget also that I'm using a thicker weight oil that - on paper - should perform poorly versus the 5W30 during winter conditions such as -40C. I did a Virgin Oil Analysis of this...

Has anyone found oil consumption info regarding Honda Motors?

I agree. My B16 hasn't shown any drop in oil consumption using Havoline Synthetic 5W40 except for every time I wipe that dipstick clean when I'm checking the level However, I do not engage VTEC that often, and I do not drag or autox the vehicle. The problem I find is when people are saying...

Havoline Synthetic performed well this morning...

Engine: 88-91 B16A Honda Oil: Havoline Synthetic 5W40 (Group III if I'm not mistaken). I've been running this oil for the last 5 months now. Mileage unknown because I've had speedometer reading problems, but I approximate at roughly 4000km. Recently the Montreal area has been slammed by a...

    Wal-Mart synthetic

Spit, Here's the link for you: http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000067#000000 As Patman stated, a lot of highway driving on that oil. Patman, when my Honda is ready for an analysis, I'll get the virgin sample for the Teck2K at the same time. Regards, Oz

Where to get 0-30 in Canada?

Oils that sell 0W30 in Canada include: - Castrol (Canadian Tire) - Tech 2000 (WalMart) - Motomaster (Canadian Tire) That's off the top of my head. Regards, Oz

    Royal Purple 5w30 SL formulation

It's probably hard to find the thread, but we discussed this months ago back when the new forum was still fairly new and member numbers were low. In any case, (correct me if I'm wrong here guys), an oil with a TBN of 8 dropping to 4 at the end of the oil change is a much better performing oil...

    what 5w20 oil to use?

Metroplex, Let us all try and finally put this to rest. I have the service manuals for all Ford Models 95-2001 (95-2002 for the Trucks I think) and can look up the tolerance specifications. Each model year, I have to burn on CD, which I am in the process of doing. Sooooooo...what factory...

    Oil Basics?

Patman, Petro Canada's "Synthetic Performance" (Group III) and "Full Synthetic" (Group IV I think) lineups claim to pass the GM 4718M. Regards, Oz

Has anyone found oil consumption info regarding Honda Motors?

Thanks for the replies fellas: Idrinkmotoroil For the time being, I refuse to believe that any engine (Wankel Rotary excluded) should be consuming too much oil provided it is in tip-top shape. The Technical bulletin that I read in the S2000 International forum regarding the F20 seems to...

    Lubrication Engineers 8130?

Thanks Kevin, Yes, you did read my post correctly. However, I still fail to realize the importance of the Falex test especially if it is to be used as an assumption that, if an oil fails it, it means it will automatically fail under Group 2 or Group 3 testing. Bob seems to suggest that an...

Honda Canada: 5W-30, Honda UK: 10W-40

I wouldn't really recommend a 10W for car that will be operated in Toronto (I'm sure Patman will disagree ). Maybe a 5W40 weight might be a good alternative during winter climates. Regards, Oz

Has anyone found oil consumption info regarding Honda Motors?

I haven't been here in a while, so I have no idea if it's been discussed (I did crudely search though). Just curious if any of you (especially Honda/Acura owners) have found any explanation about oil consumption issues....more in particular the VTEC engines: B16, B17, B18C, F20, K20, H22, D16...

    Lubrication Engineers 8130?

Kevin, Forgive my ignorance as I am not a tribologist by any means, but I am confused with your statements. I believe LM was trying find info regarding the validity of the Falex test. Having read your statements (and perhaps wrongfully.... ), you are quoting an article that's stating that the...

I'd like to make a statement about HOME BREWING oils

Yeah, me too I haven't been on as often as I should in the recent months. I have yet to see a Home Brewer's post. Oz

    Moly in Engine Oils

Terry, Is there a chemical process that I'm not aware of here? If Redline is eating away at the soft metals as a way of "cleaning", shouldn't the wear levels stay relatively high or increase, rather than decrease over a period of time? OR Could it be that the initial high soft metal count...
