Installed an hour meter to the new (to me) Yamaha generator. Cost all of under USD $6 delivered
Whilst it will show hours, it does not show engine revs, but that's fine by me.
Initially wanted to buy a blue one, but they were double the price, so went with the plain black one. No battery...
Small engines of outdoor power equipment are such simple engines that they just need oil for basic lubrication. No fancy requirements due to the use of exotic metals or emissions devices like DPFs (like diesel engines now need to have to be EPA compliant) or catalytic converters. These exhaust...
How do you produce so much waste oil from 4000 hours of use? If you had halved the oil change invervals, 4000 run hours = 80 oil changes every 50 hours. 80 oil changes at 0.4 litres = 32 litres or roughly 8.5 gallons all up.
Also the Yamaha generator at 100% load will run at 1 litre per hour...
If we are still referring to the Yamaha EF2000iS generator, the engine is a Yamaha MZ80.
Here are some technical details about the engine:

What I like are - auto cylinder decompression for easier startup, iron sleeved bore for...
Apparently there exists an EF2000iS generator with 18,000 hours, however the link to the document is dead. :(

Still thousands of EU2000i generators in service till this very day, so the thread is still relevant. I never start new discussion threads where there's already an existing one the conversation can continue on. Make searching much harder if the information is peppered everywhere.
Why not just use genuine Honda engine oil?
Like this stuff which you can buy from Amazon, eBay or presumably any Honda OPE dealer.
This oil would have been formulated with the appropriate additives, and not have any extra "engineering" for catalytic converters like automotive engine oils. Makes...
@ SwedeFP
This guy does a good job describing the multi grade viscosity concept in engine oils quite well:
The main thing is that as oil heats up, its viscosity decreases, i.e. the oil flows better as the oil gets warmer.
There's various good Youtube videos to show how to replace the timing belt on the Honda EU2000i and also the plastic governor at the bottom of the engine, fix surging idle, etc. All appear to be very doable by the average home handyman.
In Australia, the recommended Yamalube for generators is SAE 10W-30, not the 10W-40 as per the owners guide.
This stuff here: https://shop.yamaha-motor.com.au/accessories/yamalube/yamalube/golf-and-power-products/engine-oils/lub-10w30-gg-12
There is even a picture of an EF2400iS generator on...
Greetings from DownUnder!
I just bought a Chinese built EF2000is. Bought it used, year of manufacture is 2017, judging by the stamps on the engine. The previous owner said that they hardly ever used it, due to health issues, their camping plans have been put on haitus, along with their caravan...
