    Nooooo!!! Sludge in 97' Camry

I made the mistake of adding a quart of ATF to a BMW that had noisey lifters. I didn't know that it was severly sludged up. The ATF broke loose large chunks of gunk, and plugged up the oil pickup screen. I had to pull the pan, manually clean everything, and I even pulled the cylinder head to...

Maybe I'll mix some of the S3000 5w30 with the ASL on the next change. Whatcha think, 1 quart out of 7?

The bypass is likely a huge factor for my results.

Every car out there will have some sort of soot in the tailpipe. How is an oil additive going to eliminate a byproduct of combustion?

My engine has a 6 quart sump, and 7 with the bypass. I'll look into the different oils, it's been a while since I investigated this stuff. I've got some new ASL 5w30 on order, but its been about 3 weeks and no goods yet.

Has the ASL formulation changed recently? The oil in my truck is close to 2 years old.

Does Amsoil now make a S3000 5w30? I've changed the full flow and bypass once, at about the 1 year mark on the oil. I should change the full flow at about 6 months, according to Amsoil. It's getting close to 2 years on the oil, and my last order of filters and oil seems to be lost or...

It's still a good oil, just thicker than originally rated for.

Well guys, this is the second UOA for my truck, and all seems ok still. I'll try and find a link to the first one in a bit, for comparison. Amsoil ASL 5w30, using Amsoil bypass filter, single remote. Vehicle miles is 54,438, and oil mileage is approx 23,938. No make-up oil was added since the...

VNT, I tapped at the oil pressure sensor, and returned to the oil pan. I originally was going to put the return at the oil fill cap, but that is right where the PCV pulls the crankcase vapors from, so I went with the pan. I never added any oil until I changed the filters, which was not long...

It's still posted the same way as I originally posted it. The last section has the values as a "should be", and then the "tested values were". The "Elements" and the "Properties" segments are seperated and in reverse order from each other. Blackstone's actual chart has the Properties...

Yeah, all the 4.7 engines will do it in cold weather and short trip driving. Mine did it a winter ago when I only drove 4 miles to work. I was concerned at first, because a LOT of yellow snot was building up in the oil fill tube. From what I gathered, it was due to the PCV system pulling the...

Just to add, I work on BMW autos for a living. The oil drain interval for the late model cars is 15k miles, or annually. Synthetic oil must be used, of course, and BMW uses Castrol Syntec 5w30 for everything but the "M" cars. For the most part, there aren't any problems with this oil interval...
