AC Compressor Clutch Repair - JB Weld?

I'd consider picking up a boneyard compressor. I've done that in the past with much success.

Lawn mower batteries are junk even when new

I've gotten to the point anymore that I just buy the cheapest and view them as a consumable. I have had a John Deere branded battery (that was almost $50 25 years ago) only last a year, while I have had WM or RK cheapos go 6-7 years. I agree with the overall average being about 3 years. I used...

Why do people buy 1 quart bottles of oil?

Convenience. If I need to put something like 1.7 qts. in the Kawasaki on my JD, I don't need to be messing around with a 5qt jug, a 6qt box, or a 55 gal drum. If I need to carry some in the tool box of my truck for top off, I don't need the 5, 6, or the 55. This view carries across the board...

Anyone Accidentally Find a Good Tub/Shower Cleaner You Never Expected?

We are limited to 409 and a couple of others because we have one of the acrylic tub makeover deals and thus are limited as to what we can use. Actually, the 409 does pretty well.

Plastic repair- whats your secret sauce?

When I had the standard John Deere hood crack (starting from the handle) on my tractor, I used fiberglass drywall tape on the inside of the hood over the crack and slathered this stuff all over it. It has held solid for over eight years. That version of JD Weld, in particular, is great stuff.

Why haven't gas prices gone down?

Taking the discounts wherever I can get them. Just stopped at the Duchess ( The local purveyor of much of the local BP fuel) and took on a load of RUG for the pickup, because it just so happened that I had .60 cents/gallon of discount handy. So: $3.69/gal - .60/gal discount - 4% PNC CC rebate =...

Crashed the Avalon, exploring replacement options

Yes, you have to pay tax to the state where it is titled. The key is to avoid states where you have to pay it regardless of whether not it will be titled there. Looked at a demo truck at a Chevrolet dealership in Miami, Florida. I was informed that I would have to pay Florida sales tax on it, as...

Crashed the Avalon, exploring replacement options

I'd go Camry/Avalon/ES, or perhaps an Accord. Having owned two Corolla equivalent vehicles, and being a bigger person myself, I can testify that they are true penalty boxes. Buy something that you are comfortable in. Do it by shopping well, being geographically flexible, and knowing how to...

    Dehumidifer in the garage

I'd say that if you are going to burn the electric to run a dehumidifier, you may as well run an A/C and get cool air along with the dehumidification. How large is the A/C you have? How old is it? You may want to shop and see if you can get a more efficient unit.

What can Valvoline do to top Restore and Protect?

Why do they need to "Top it?" All they need to do is properly market it for maximum sales.

Fuel additives vs searching for Top Tier Gas

Nothing wrong with that. I did that for years because there was not a source of TT Fuel around me for a 30 mile radius. I dumped a battle of Techron in it every 5K. Car was still running like a champ @ 275K. If you can get TT and it is a comparable price to what you usually use, buy it. If not...

Which top tier gas for older cars?

Most of my cars are "Old." I consult with Gas Buddy and select a clean, high volume station that is the lowest bid possible. When I happen to have them available, fuelperks from both Kroger and Giant Eagle play into the equation. Generally speaking, that translates into a lot of Shell and Costco...
