Try this. Wash your car like normal, and then take a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to the windows. You'll probably be amazed at how much stuff it gets off the "clean" windshield. As far as I can tell, the melamine foam cannot harm glass.

I've got a '12 Hyundai Accent with EPS, and it is great. Much more natural feeling than hydraulic PS, in my opinion. Before you get in the weeds about disabling them, just test some vehicles with it and see how you like it.
