While I had my mechanic replace the Variable Speed Sensor they noticed that I probably was leaking most of my oil due to some loose bolts on my oil pan. They tigtened them up and I'll monitor the oil loss over time.
My mechanic quoted $525 to do the rear main seal. It's an automatic. I'm going to wait a while after the 2nd rinse phase to give it a little extra time for the AutoRX treatment before getting the seal replaced.
MarkC:
I did do the two AutoRX treatments for reconditioning seals. I'm in last stage of rinse phase for the second treatment. Still have a leak so I'm assuming the seal is bad. I love the smooth acceleration I get after doing the AutoRX! I'll wait awhile before I actually think of doing the...
What have some of you paid or feel like the cost would be to have the rear main seal replaced on a 1990 Accord EX Sedan? I love this car, but if it's going to cost me alot then I might look for a newer car (1993 Accord SE).
Nobody... I mean nobody likes to feel stupid about something they do. Especially like what they buy on a regular basis. Sometimes you just say I've heard excellent things about the filter I use and let it go at that. If they ask for more information then you give them a little more info.
I'm must assume then that trucks/SUVs get a different CAFE rating than regular automobiles. That would explain why I see more trucks and SUVs on the road these days. The automobile manufacturers push those vehicles so they can make money and not have to attain the same CAFE rating as regular...
Excellent. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) being used to test weight loss of oils. At what ramp rate are you heating to 200 degrees on the TA instrument?
I replaced it with a Purolator Pure One and disposed of the cheap Quick Lube Security filter. I saw an oil leak at the bottom of the filter.
I'm going to try out these Pure One filters with Valvoline Maxlife 10W30 for at least two oil changes.
Who makes Security Oil Filters? This was what they put on my car at the Citgo Quick Lube last time. I can't seem to find any reference to them online. Model # SO-3593AS
I e-mailed my question about the change in filter size to their Filter Hotline. They forwarded it to their engineering department. This was the response:
"Change is always happening. We are always looking for ways to improve manufacturing efficiencies. Where it makes sense to consolidate one...
Gotta applaud their quick response and honesty. I'll keep buying their filters. I figure the filter area due to the extra pleats give more surface over most others anyway...
I bought a Purolator Pure One oil filter PL24458 from Advance Auto for my '89 Honda Accord. I went online to check that I bought the correct filter size and found that they list two filters PL14459 and PL24458 while stock lasts. Looking at the specifications on the filters show that the PL14459...
