Any chance your hands were slick so you snugged it up with a metal strap oil filter wrench and scratched it up.. didnt see it suggested unless I missed it
I had a pair of monroes shocks with the spring on a ranger. They didnt help sagging under load. But they did make it ride rough lol. If you are having sagging issues look into sumo springs.
My best advice is be concerned with whether or not it has a 20 year old timing belt then id do any tune up items that arent fresh. Then get a cold air intake and exhaust, at least it might sound fastish
