Look at the VOA for the CK-4 Rotella T6. A lot less zinc than the older mixes (CJ-4 and earlier) that the Subaru guys swore by.
I’m looking at trying the Valvoline Extreme Blue in my M2 engine, or just use a euro oil with high HTHS numbers.
I am in no way a tribologist, but in general the majority of soot comes from the additives that are placed in the oil.
The most interesting factoid I came across while doing research was the effect of calcium on soot in DPFs. There's a slide deck at the following link that discusses the impact...
I did check the Mad Jack out, and it’s a solid piece of kit. I think I figured if I had to fab a rock guard, I might as well do the mounting bracket.
Glad to hear the bypass is giving you good numbers.
Pics on the truck. It hasn't even snowed that much up here (Syracuse), and that's reminding me I need to get my truck undercoating re-sprayed.
Tried to name/group them so it makes sense.
My largest annoyance with my truck is the oil filter being at a 45 degree angle. No matter how hard I tried, it always seemed like I was getting oil on the frame and ground from changes. I’m interested in extended OCI, so started researching bypass setups. Though I don’t run Amsoil, their setup...
Using the amsoil dual bypass setup that I added with the first change on the report. It’s mounted under the drivers side door. That and the Fumoto drain valve make changes and sampling simple.
Whoever put the oil filter and oil fill where they did should be made to work in a quick lube place...
Strikes me as odd that Calcium, phosphorus, zinc, and Magnesium all went up. That would be indicative of an oil change... might consider another lab for analysis considering wear metals went up. Did you (they?) put an additive in between samples?
Definitely something strange here. I’d change...
