Definitive Pennzoil Ultra Platinum vs Mobil 1 ESP vs Amsoil vs Valvoline Restore and Protect

Super Tech, Kirkland, Amazon Basics, it is the same blender and, according to VOAs, the same oil. I have used Kirkland 0W20 twice in a hybrid and gotten good UOAs back. And R&P is $29.97 at the WalMart here.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum no longer GTL base?

When you find a PDS statement always check the date. It may not be current. That is the problem with the internet, a lot of old stuff stays online. I use the shell site www.epc.shell.com make sure you choose the correct country.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum no longer GTL base?

Notice the clever wording, "with natural gas" not the previous "from natural gas". If you look at the SDS it says about the base oil "made from one or more of the following", and it lists about 15 CAS numbers, one of them is for GTL, a few PAOs, and a lot of Group 3s. So it is like buying a...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum no longer GTL base?

I do not see that statement on their jugs and bottles any more.

    Pennzoil Platinum 5w30?

Agree. As the Motor Oil Geek says, if you think you need to add an additive to your oil, you are using the wrong oil.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum no longer GTL base?

Read their lastest Safety Data Sheet my friend. There may be GTL in it, maybe even some PAO, probably a lot of regular group 3. The sheet lists 10+ CAS ingredients in the base oil with the words may contain one or more of the following. Sort of like buying synthetic blend, you really don't...

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum no longer GTL base?

Ultra Platinum no longer guaranteed GTL. I was getting the 0W20 but when checking section 3 of the Ultra Platinum 0W20 SDS I saw this: "Interchangeable low viscosity base oils, contains one or more of the following CAS-numbers: 64742-53-6, 64742-54-7, 64742-55-8, 64742-56-9, 64742-65-0...

    0w-8 vs 0w-30

That is strange. I was taught that the winter grade is what the oil starts out as. Of course as it heats up it gets thinner but in order to get it into a higher grade, like 30, viscosity index improvers must be added. By what you are saying, you start with a 30 grade oil at 100 C then add...

One oil for a whole year, 0W-30?

ESP has a great base oil but it is also thick at 100C, almost a 40 grade which starts at 12.5 cSt. ESP 0W30 is 12.2 cSt at 100C. 30 grade is 9.3 to under 12.5 cSt at 100C.

Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 vs Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5w30?

I guess you would not be interested in what many consider the best oil, Amsoil Signature Series, regardless of the price, because it has no "star".

Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 vs Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5w30?

I got them off the Mobil 1 site about the time Advanced Clean first came out and was only sold at AAP. Since then I know the PDS sheets no longer carry the VIs.

Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 vs Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5w30?

    All 30 oils but here is the cSt values along with viscosity index of the three. Valvoline Restore and Protect 5W30 - 10.8 @ 100 C and 161 VI, Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5W30 - 10.1 @ 100 C and 172 VI, Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 - 12.0 @ 100 C and 180 VI.

    Better oil I can use

I use Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 because it is on the high side of the 30 range, 12.0 cSt at 100 C.

Best Injector cleaner With P.E.A. for the money?

Yeah but which Chevron Techron? Best of that brand is the 20 oz. bottle labeled Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus.
