2011 Highlander mystery vibration/shaking. At the end of my rope!

Well guess what everybody, I solved it. It was a REAR caliper. Only reason I noticed was because I decided to spin the wheels with the tires off. With the tire on there was enough mass to smoothly spin. When I took the tire off and just spun the rotor I noticed it was hanging up about once per...

Yeah, honestly the control arms felt great after install 50k miles ago. If they didn’t require lifting the engine to remove the mounts which is a major PITA I would just swap them out- used to take me an hour on my CRV.

Just to update you- new calipers are on and it’s probably 70% better. I now just have some around 35-45 or so but it seems obnoxiously dependent on the road surface. The roads by me are in some abysmal shape, and sometimes it feels like every imperfection gets transmitted. New road that they do...

If I could be guaranteed the car lasts 15k I’ll take it 😂 If it’ll last another 15k I’ll take it 😂

New calipers are on, hoses worked fine thankfully and I didn’t have to touch them.

CV are bona fide genuine Toyota. CAs are Mevotech I think…

I might hold off on the hoses. Last time I did my calipers they did not look forgiving, and if I break a brake line I would have no clue where to start. I also don’t have a second vehicle to get to work so I need to play it safe when I can.

On the steering column? They do, and they’re well known for being ****e. However I can feel it’s in the wheels, if that makes any sense…

2011 Highlander mystery vibration/shaking. At the end of my rope!

Well dang, I’m learning a lot about brakes today. I did have a few drops of fluid come out when fixing the seal back into place, and knowing they’re just dust covers now means I guess there is indeed a leak at the seal further back even if it’s a small one. Funny enough I went over to a...

2011 Highlander mystery vibration/shaking. At the end of my rope!

I think I just have flashbacks from trying to find tubing to fit down my transmission dipstick hole, that would also fit on a pump I had. Not fun! I’ve done some pondering and I think calipers may be the ticket. I was reading up on how calipers retract, aside from when being forced like when...

All good ideas- honestly, worried about collapsing the brake hose and I’ll have the calipers on quick enough. Biggest pain of this job will be finding the right ID hose to bleed, and dealing with the bankers hours at the local hardware store.

2011 Highlander mystery vibration/shaking. At the end of my rope!

If I’m being 100% honest it feels a LITTLE wobbly at 25 and higher, but the roads by me are so crappy that I chalk up a bit of rough ride to cheap and quick road resurfacing. Cleaned all mounting surfaces with a wire brush a few times. Unfortunately I know almost no one that is good with cars...

2011 Highlander mystery vibration/shaking. At the end of my rope!

You’re nailing it. I’m thinking the ONLY thing I did was change my brakes. I’m now leaning towards replacing front calipers even if they “seem” ok. I originally used Wagner rotors and Bosch pads. After I thought the rotors might be out of balance, I put on Bosch rotors and Wagner pads- just...

2011 Highlander mystery vibration/shaking. At the end of my rope!

Good thinking- I’m going to go to a very good tire shop this weekend and have them all road force balanced. I think they’ll have a better idea. The local place I went I trust with most things but this may be a bit out of their wheelhouse, more than a simple issue that they likely deal with day...
