recommend the best gear lube for 2004 Lexus GX470

Thanks guys, yes I have been checking out the websites you mentioned...turns out the GX470 (Prado) is a pretty dang nice trail runner too. Who knew? I'm running Redline 5W30 motor oil and it has done great for me. I was thinking of sticking with the Amsoil for the diffs, but just has heard...

recommend the best gear lube for 2004 Lexus GX470

Just getting ready to have my differential fluid changed again... used Amsoil at 60K, now at 115K. Can't remember if I used 80w90 or 75w90 gear lube last time (old age kicking in). Can someone who knows these gear lubes, suggest which would be best for me? (Front/Rear Diffs and Transfer Case)...

    GX470 oil or fluids

well... I guess I should update. I now have 115,000 miles and no issues whatsoever on the GX470. Been using the Redline 5w30 at every change and changed out the tranny/diff fluids at about 60K. Seems like the engine is running just fine. I have towed our 19 foot trailer a couple of times a year...

Bob. Trailer Boat Wheel Bearing/Sterndrive Gimble Bearing Grease

This is a good subject to bring back, I was also just deciding on a grease to have for the boat drive gimble and trailer wheel bearings (EZ Bearings). My first choice was the Amsoil Waterproof Grease with Lithium Complex but is that the right choice? Is there a "best to use all-around" high...

Best Gear oil for old 1966 Eaton Outdrive

Thanks for all the help and input. I have the short lists for Sterndrive gear oil, grease for trailer wheels and outdrive yoke and for engine oil (Ford 289). My gear oil choices are... Redline Heavy Shock Proof 75W90 (GL-5) (Leaning towards this one) Redline Gear Oil 75W90 (GL-5+) Amsoil...

what is best to revive an old 1966 hipo 289 engine

I appreciate your feedback. I've been using the redline valve seat additive (lead substitute) since the valve seats are still the old style. From what I heard from Torco, their octane booster (accelerator) has the same type of valve seat lubricants in it. As far as the octane rating required, I...

Best Gear oil for old 1966 Eaton Outdrive

Redline answered with "our 75W90 GL-5 gear oil will work fine. Gear oils have come a long way and it should work great there." I'm still a little concerned and not sure if this takes into account any clutch dogs or other out drive specific needs.

Best Gear oil for old 1966 Eaton Outdrive

Eaton is no longer around, so nobody to ask. But thinking maybe a good product from Torco, Redline or Amsoil?

Best Gear oil for old 1966 Eaton Outdrive

I have my old Eaton series sixteen outdrive on my 1966 Donzi 16 Ski Sporter and yes it still runs fine. The manual calls out for "a first grade, heavy duty gear oil, SAE 90 weight, containing Sulphur-Chlorine-Lead additive - or Eaton p/n L-100" Anyone have some idea of what to use these days? I...

what is best to revive an old 1966 hipo 289 engine

Not sure if I was clear but the carb is new (and was tuned/jetted by our mechanic last month, so I feel comfortable with how it is running. Although I may ask him to try and adjust it or the air/fuel mixture again. The cam is an Iskenderian Cam and has the following specs (from the card)...

what is best to revive an old 1966 hipo 289 engine

So... I have been running the boat with Castrol that was put in by my mechanic (I need to grab a bottle of the extra to make sure which for sure, but I think it is 20/50w GTX). A few times out and it has been running great, but I want to change out this first oil soon after running a few...

what is best to revive an old 1966 hipo 289 engine

It does have a mild cam (iskadarian?) We will check some of those items mentioned, compression is excellent and maybe I can replace valve springs soon. I was thinking of using AutoRX added to the oil just for potential improvement and ease of mind, and maybe run some Redline gas additive through...

what is best to revive an old 1966 hipo 289 engine

Thanks for all the input...I should have added that the carb is new and the engine mechanic is a hydroplane boat racer who knows marine engines and personally knew the guy who built this engine (small world). He couldn't believe how nice the engine looked when we had it opened up. We will...

what is best to revive an old 1966 hipo 289 engine

This probably should be listed in another section, but the engine is typically one out of a Mustang. I have been handed down the family I/O ski boat (1966 16' Donzi Ski Sporter). It has been in our family since my dad bought it new in 1966. He swapped out the engine right after he bought it with...
