    3.5 Ecoboost cam lobe wear?

Yeah, that’s what I’m planning to do. I am now wondering if i can pull the turbos and heads, and do a proper clean up with the engine in the car. It sits too low in the engine bay!

    3.5 Ecoboost cam lobe wear?

A fellow f150 owner reached out to me. He had the phaser rattle, got it fixed. He developed the top end knock that I am having. The dealer found similar failure, but the lobes were gone and sent metal through the engine. They put a long block in his truck. Another Expedition owner had the same...

The Ford rep crushed me like a bug. He said, we understand your concern and value you as a customer, but we can't help.

Yeah, I am already $2K in parts, then new heads and cams are probably an additional $3.5k. A new long block is $7K. I am still exploring my options.

    3.5 Ecoboost cam lobe wear?

As far as I know, it is not very common. Most people change the phasers to the new design and don't have issues. However, few others reached out and indicated they have the same problem.

Just the Motorcraft specified oil filter. No extended intervals... 5k miles at most. Wasted a lot of money on oil.

No debris in the solenoids. They look brand new. I studies this video couple other times before going into the engine.

Thank s for the suggestion. That is what I will probably do. Do you mean lower end bearings or cam towers? I am hoping the bottom end is OK. The engine was still running fine except for the cam phaser rattle and some lifter noise.

    3.5 Ecoboost cam lobe wear?

Thank you for the suggestion. If the damage is due to maintenance issue, this may work. However, I am pretty convinced it is head design issue. This will happen again soon if I don't change the head.

Yes and No. They released a software patch to address the issue (at least that's what I thought). The letter said they will void the warranty if you don't get the software update. Then they offered a pro-rated warranty but restricted the time frame till 2023.

Out of warranty of course, but only 75 k miles. Great idea, I will go ahead and contact Ford. Any Ford representative on this forum?

Yeah, that grooving looks bad. But no trash... always clean oil and good filter @5K miles. I am have not checked yet, but last night when I removed the caps and saw the discoloration (heat generated) and grooving on the intake cam compared to the exhaust, I got depressed, took some pictures...

Amsoil signature series 5w-30 since new.... However, I don't think it has anything to do with oil quality. It looks like a design defect that was corrected on later designs.

Big ouch. Removed the cams and it seems some journals and towers have some wear. First two pictures are intake cam at the mega cap and second two are exhaust. You can see the grooves and wear on the intake cam.
