I used 5w-20 up until these issues occurred (so from 2017-present), and went up-to 5w-30 after receiving the car back from the dealership. I intend to stay at that grade unless there are other recommendations for colder times of the year.
I’ll admit that while at Walmart some time back, I saw the discount for Mobil 1 Advanced Clean and pulled the trigger. Being that I have 4x jugs of Mobil 1 Advanced Clean 5w-30, plus 2 of Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 and 2 of Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30, it might be a while until I can get around...
I appreciate the responses by everyone.
The dealership service tech applied service campaign #953, forgoing the replacement of any engine internals. The ECU was updated to change the knock sensor detection sensitivity. I was told that if there are any additional issues, to bring it-in...
What I mean is, would upping that additive work-against the properties that Valvoline Restore and Protect is famous-for? Or, is more moly simply more moly?
I'm not bent out-of-shape about it. I just figured it might give a rocket-surgeon in the forum an opportunity to educate us on how these...
All,
First, I'm not advocating the combination...but I happen to have a bottle of MOS2 and a few jugs of Valvoline Restore and Protect.
Is there anyone knowledgeable on the Valvoline Restore and Protect formulation properties that could support/defend upping the moly (in an oil that...
Re: Liquid Glass & Sealants
In my experience with many paint-protection products, the honest truth is that quality ceramic coatings outperform traditional waxes and sealants by a tremendous margin. That doesn't mean they're easy to apply or that they don't require maintenance, but from a...
Great job. In my experience, Collinite 476 (or really Fleetwax) goes-on easier and has 95% of the look that 915 has. I've also found 915 to be very finicky after it's applied; tends to sweat a bit, or require additional care. If that isn't regarded as work, then there's no penalty. But for...
Hindsight is always 20/20. Case in-point, I bought a Mazda3 Premium manual last Fall. The Hyundai was the right purchase at the time; scored it for $18k, and it’s been paid-off for 5 years. For getting 9 trouble-free years out of it, I can’t really complain.
My response isn’t to debate or challenge, but to genuinely question. If Super Tech is inferior, yet it meets GL-7/API-SQ specs, what’s so bad about it? If it simply doesn’t have the brand panache or doesn’t have the pedigree, is it really bad if it’s cheaper and allows for 3-5k OCIs? Now, if...
