Noisy differential or CVs? 2012 Sienna AWD

hmm, well if I'm committed to replacing the diff (which it seems I may be) in the meantime can I just remove the rear axles to eliminate the noise? I suppose maybe that would expose the wheel hubs to the external environment? or is the wheel bearing sealed even with the axles removed?

Noisy differential or CVs? 2012 Sienna AWD

2012 Sienna AWD. I thought I had a bad wheel bearing but traced the noise to the rear diff. Not sure if its an internal bearing, worn out gears, or one/both of the CV axles? anyone have experience with this? 4 years ago I replaced the infamous viscous coupler due to a screeching bearing, and...

$48 Value battery 2 week test

I guess I've had mixed results with desulfation. I have several chargers with a desulfation mode, and none of them seem to do very much. one of them puts out some 30+ Vac at some unknown frequency, no way I'm hooking that up to my car, and disconnecting the battery to do it is too much hassle...

$48 Value battery 2 week test

yep, so this morning it measured 325cca, a sharp drop off from the most recent test a week ago (509). it then failed a 100A load test, and then barely started the vehicle. so it lasted 4yrs 3mo. My local Walmart just got fresh 24F Value batteries in so I picked one up for $70 (40% price increase...

    Preemptively Replace Battery...OR not?

I would not get an OEM Toyota battery. They are just JC/Clarios premium/max batteries that have been sitting on the dealer shelf for 11+ months. If you want Clarios get the Costco batt when they get fresh stock. Or better yet, get the Sam's Club East Penn Duracell for the same price. Take your...

    Toyota vs Lexus Brake Rotors

well dang this is embarrassing... ok, yes I did take off the rotor to inspect the hub, and yes there was a bit of corrosion that probably did impede the rotor from sitting flush... but to my shock & horror -- before I even got to that point I realized that I hadn't torqued the wheel lugs after I...

    Toyota vs Lexus Brake Rotors

you might be on to something there. I did sand it, but it didn't go on smoothly and I used the lug nuts to seat it evenly, or so I thought. I'll check that again tomorrow. But the spacing was extremely close all around, and evenly so, not just on the outboard side. as to the other points, yes...

    Toyota vs Lexus Brake Rotors

hopefully this isn't a dumb question - but has anyone had issues with OEM Toyota/Lexus brake parts fitment on Lexus vehicles? I bought Toyo/Lexus 43512-0E030 rotors from a local Toyota dealer. Box has both Toyo & Lexus "genuine" OEM parts logos. The part # is the same for both Lexus and Toyota...

    Hard Starting Accord

now get a good maintenance charger if you don't have one. I have an older version of this that does the job nicely. It holds 13.6v float voltage with the parasitic draw of the car. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097D397M6 I've had issues with other chargers always slipping back into 14.6v...

    Hard Starting Accord

5-6yrs in a car that is barely driven (and presumably not kept on a maintenance charger) = bad battery. I'll bet my next paycheck on it. But 5+ years under those conditions is actually really good. a standard flooded battery would be toast in a year or 2.

    Hard Starting Accord

I think we're overthinking this... and I don't think you told us how old the battery is? even AGM don't last forever... but your leakdown test does indeed indicate a weak battery (assuming it was, in fact, disconnected from any load), which is what I suspect. You could buy a cheap electronic...

Brake wear indicator clips really needed?

so I tried to reshape the clips, bend them into shape, etc, but it was hopeless. they do not fit, so I just didn't use them. I'm now wondering if Toyota caliper brackets are ever so slightly different than Lexus??? The Toyo and Lexus part # is the same for these pads 04465-0E010, and indeed the...

    Atf color.

there's no drain plug, but there's a dip stick? (and therefore an easy way to add fluid?). interesting... so the best way to exchange the fluid is what @KrisZ suggested above, assuming its as easy to access that tube as he makes it look... measure the amount you flush out and replace it via the...

Brake wear indicator clips really needed?

I'm replacing OEM Toyota pads with OEM Toyota pads, and transferring the shims and "wear clips" (cuz the OEM pads don't include them)... but the clips just don't fit right on the new OEM pads. The pads look identical, but the clips are somehow not sitting "flat" if the makes sense, and it makes...

Supertech Asian or Prestone Asian ?

there's another drain plug on the block? I didn't know that. I did use the bleeder screw on top and purged a bunch of coolant that way, but I didn't know you easily drain the block too. good tip for the future, thx.
