That's just it. We don't really know what is happening with the piston rings until we tear the bottom end apart or until we start to see oil consumption and compression loss.
If anything, oils like Valvoline Restore and Protect can help shed some light on selecting the right OCI / oil for your...
29k Kms so about 18k miles. I dumped it into the big waste jug right after I measured it. i would think it was the red stuff but I dont know, could go either way. The Diff oil wasn’t as dark. Seemed to be tan/brown to me., didn’t take photos. Doesn’t make sense that it would be two different...
Same with mine. The part numbers on the differential and transfer case do not change for 2024. I suspect it was a mistake. I also found this. Lexus Bulletin
The Motylgear lacks that typical, strong and unmistakable gear oil scent. Wondering what it’s missing or if it’s using something else to get to the same protection goal.
With it being GL4/5 should I be concerned about it holding up? The factory fill dumped at 29k Km did not look too pretty...
Yes this is for the Straight Gas RAV4 models and more specifically the trim levels without Torque Vectoring.
What are thoughts about the product I used?
Motul MotylGear 75W-85.
Used it in transfer case and differential.
Gear oil doesn't apply to Hybrid RAV4's they only use ATF.
This was for Gas versions that have a traditional Transfer case and differential. The Toyota Gear Oils are not even sold at all Toyota dealers up in Canada. Nothing special about it, 3-4x the price of regular gear oil and it comes in an...
Had a tough time yesterday confirming if this oil (Motul MotylGear) 75W-85 (no LS additive) was suitable for Transfer Case and Differential.
I know I can use 75W-90 with or without LS additives in this, but this is the gear oil I had on hand and wanted to use up.

In hearing so many good things about Valvoline Restore and Protect on here I just wish I had some problematic engines to try it on and track improvements!.
That Honda I talk of is still on the road with the oil burning engine many years later with solid quarter panels and all! , Albeit it...
I can't be the only one that sometimes wonders how this oil could have helped oil burners that you have long sold off or scrapped.
I'll start:
I had 2000 Civic SiR with the B16A2 that started burning oil at around 90k miles, which turned into a quart every 1000miles habit by the time it got to...
This is the thing about this dynamic force engine. It runs so **** cool that it makes you wonder what goal a Xw30 is even going to accomplish unless you are hill climbing anywhere on the equator line. This is coming someone who has exclusively used Xw30 in it and am questioning it as the fuel...
I have used these in the summer. The first is Canadian Tire rebottled PUP which is was discontinued and now brought back as “Extended Performance” Have also used Actual Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30. In winter have used 0w30 Euro LX and Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy.
Very consistent...
I would run 5w30 in warmer climate just like I ran in VQs in the past, but grade aside I would be doing short intervals, have seen these produce coal like sludge first hand.
Thats funny, I just saw and heard one running in a parking lot and thought sheesh , it doesn’t sound too healthy for a Honda (Ticking and clicking).Assume 5w20 all its life as per cap.
I’d run a euro w30 in it and see where that takes it.
That is insane @ $19.77. Crazy that it would last more than a couple of days going into the summer months. Goes to show how uninformed the average oil buyer is, bypassing it because it is not xw20.
I made another post about this oil a while back. They were clearing out Quaker State Euro line as...
