Another Carquest premium from the 2015 Sonata. Car has 170k, replacement engine has ~27k. The filter has 6,300 miles and oil had 3,300. Out: Mobil 1 ESP 5w-30 and CarQuest filter In: Mobil 1 ESP 0w-30 and Carquest premium filter.

I would if I could get it cheaper than Fram Endurance. I think I paid $12 for this filter, which was cheaper than the endurance at the time. They have now went up on these, to $17. As for the filtering I still like these, even with the waves. I’ve inspected quite a few of these with low miles...

I didn’t change the oil, so it is still Mobil 15W-50. Oil filter is Carquest Premium 85515

Yes, straight up. It’s kinda shielded so that’s why I didn’t see the dirty side.

Yes, just that one area, maybe 1/4 of the filter. I honestly didn’t notice it until I went to cut it open, so I’m not sure what direction it was on the engine… I know the bottom of the filter was clean, because I looked up at the filter before removing it.

I hadn’t seen that. However there is no way it wasn’t tight. I installed it the same way I’ve installed all the previous premium guard filters. Seat them and tighten them down tight by hand. Not that I have a super grip but it takes a decent filter wrench to get them off. I actually wondered if...

Agree. Seems like most companies are going away from them. I believe most of the Napa gold filters are premium guard or someone else now too.
