This is the final update to my oil test, you can look through my older posts here(https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/2020-civic-hatchback-1-5t-30000mi-5000mi-oci-kirkland-0w20-blackstone-and-oa.378069/), I have concluded that running 0w-20 in Kirkland(first 3 tests) or Pennzoil (most...
I get what he means, as in counter the thinning the 0w-20s by using 5w30 in hopes that dilutions won't thin it down below whatever threshold that would damage the drivetrain.
I get that we are just mitigating the symptom of a problem instead of solving the source problem, but if using 91octane...
After reading many more threads in this forum regarding the dilution issue, I'm going to just run premium gas only(91 octane) and limit as many variables as possible. I will report back at 35000 miles from both labs again.
Thanks, I'll grab those on sale. I don't want to step up to 5w30, but theoretically going to the kirkland 5w20 should be more stable as well compared to the 0w20? I don't see freezing temps here in AZ, might give it a try. Or maybe not...
Both labs literally says my numbers are good? Or are you ignoring that part? All the oil numbers are still within spec albeit some are on the low end.
Not to say I’m not doing something about it, I’m already doing 5k oci to mitigate the issue.
is your recommendation switch to 5w30 , 91octane...
Yes, my OCI has always been 5k mi. Should be fine, all our family cars now run on 0w-20 so I just bulk buy when Costco has them on sale. Not that concerned
Correct me if I'm wrong, the worry is that the fuel dilution the CST@100 is too thin and not enough to protect the components, but the test...
Hello,
As promised from my last thread(https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/2020-civic-hatchback-1-5t-24000m-4000m-oci-kirkland-0w20.370148/#post-6525028) that I would send the same sample to both OA and Blackstone to see discrepancies and fuel dilution
The results came back and there is...
Thank you, the first thread didn’t get interesting until a few pages in, and the last est ups shows insane dilution for a newer car. It also seems like you guys were already fighting in several fronts already🤣
Anyway what I got is, keep my OCI at 5k is fine. After next cycle I’ll test 91 fuel...
Link? You can still share locked thread right?
Please share it because this is the first time I’ve heard of this, massive dilution should only lead to oil film not having enough viscosity to protect engine wear. I want to know at what mileage and oci it happened because of dilution, or is it...
I tend to agree that perhaps Honda would test equal to or more rigorously than Mobil 1, you can check out this video on how meticulously they test products.
Just being devil's advocate's and throwing out random thoughts here, and CAFE standard aside, what's more logical?
1.A company like Honda not testing their GDI engines at all pushes 0w20 not knowing it would have dilution issues and oil thinning grade before the oil change interval
2. Honda...
Wow that’s quite a difference! I though the 2.0L were safe because they are NA, but I guess the Acura models are 2.0 turbo?
Did you end up finding a good countermeasure?
