What are NEMA 6-20 250V receptacles used for?

I had an old bench grinder that used that plug…

Wagner Thermoquiet no longer has integrated shim for my CRV

I used a set on my Tercel over 100k with no noise or issues. Also got a similar experience on my 2005 CR-V. However, they do not look like they used to - quality seems to have gone down - I guess I can't comment on current parts.

The Dying Towns Of Southern Saskatchewan- 20 minute video

I’m from southern Saskatchewan - both sides of my grandparent’s families homesteaded in 1907 and 1915. Both families had 10 kids, the vast majority of whom stayed in the community throughout their lives. Dad stopped farming in the early 90’s, as he found that he could make as much money...

Any value in a first generation iPad Air?

One thing to keep in mind…..if you have an old iPad and use third party apps, don’t do a factory reset or even remove apps if you Intend to use them again. I found I could use Netflix, etc…on my old iPad but I did a factory reset to start fresh and none of the 3rd party apps would install, as...

    Raw Garlic Eaters

Through experimentation, my dad discovered that he prevents canker sores with the consumption of garlic pills. It is so consistent that if he stops taking them he knows precisely how many days it will be until he gets a canker sore.

What are you doing right now?

I picked up the drain pump for my dishwasher and replaced the old one. I initially didn’t have it in right and was surprised by a massive leak when testing but I recovered and sorted it out. Everything is back in place and operational

What are you doing right now?

I have a 7 year old Bosch dishwasher that came up with an e:24 error last night. I removed and checked the drain hoses this evening and also checked down in the sump and there is nothing blocking it. Everything but the pump has been checked and it sounds quiet when it tries to drain, compared...

Walmart removing self checkouts, reported results include significant reduction in theft

I've never been to a Target but in general, places like that are much. much bigger than what we generally have up here and have better selection. Target tried to make a big expansion into Canada but people found that the selection was miniscule compared to the US-based stores and pricing was...

What are you working on today?

I picked up a $15 husqvarna push mower last year with a Briggs & Stratton 6.0hp motor. It’s been good but last week started to sputter and wouldn’t run right. I had a look today and found it was a plugged air filter. I went out to pick one up but couldn’t find it locally so ordered and will...

What are you doing right now?

I’m at the Canadian Brew House in Victoria, BC, watching game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final. Drinking a tankard of Phillips Blue Buck. This is one of those chain sports bars but it’s up on the patio, sitting in the sun. Super relaxing. I rarely ever get out or drink.

Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

About 10 years ago we took the train from Switzerland to Denmark and spent a week on a dairy farm out in the country. We then moved on to Friesland and spent a week or so in some of the rural parts up there….magical places. Great people. I’ve always been keen to try the Yorkshire Dales……

Who's never traveled outside of the United States?

As a Canadian, I have still only been as far east as Toronto. There’s a lot of country to the east I have to explore. I drove from Great Falls back to Victoria and also took the Amtrak from Seattle to Chicago. What a wonderful experience - so much beautiful countryside. I’ve also been to...

    Backing into parking spaces

There are lots of parkades and parking lots that ban backing into spaces. The reason is that many people are terrible drivers and end up backing into the wall or hitting whatever is behind the space.

What was the first car you worked on regularly?

1965 Mercury half ton. It was an old fuel truck on the farm, formerly a CN Rail truck. I decided to rebuild the motor in 1997, simply to learn how to do it. To illustrate where I started, I accidentally drained the transmission instead of the engine oil then it all spilled out when I had the...
