Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Just curious about their findings if they don't do GC tests.

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Interesting read received today "Is Fuel Dilution Just a Hybrid Thing?". That's why I personally favor the 5k OCI, even if it doesn't meet the special operation conditions. From BlackStone Labs...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! So basically when the ICE is off (EV Mode) the system is open keeping the stationary oil hot (160F). Then when the ICE is working the system closes so the flowing oil does not get hotter; and since it's flowing mixing with colder oil thus the...

That make sense. ^ It took me by surprise. I was expecting the opposite, higher when throttling, lower when idling/Ev.

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Today out of curiosity I decided to monitor the oil temp on a 25mi city drive. What I found really strange was that the oil temp was higher on EV mode vs ICE. When on ICE the temp was 140F and 160F when on EV. This was using the Carista APP. Does that make any sense? Edit: For reference...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

I'm considering using either Mobil 1 or Valvoline 0W-20 Hybrid oils for those in between 5k OCI and DIY. Apparently those are formulated to minimize fuel dilution and moisture. Could they be just marketing gimmicks? Basically: Every 10k: 0W-16 *free / dealer included up to 40k Every 5k: 0W-20...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Thanks to ALL! I found all this discussion and topic very interesting. Fortunately I'm in a warmer climate so I don't get the extreme cold temperatures most of lower 48 is experiencing right now. I was looking into the overseas manual and although it shows multiple grades as acceptable, it...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Thank you very much! Very informative. I'm still learning and researching about this. I always like to know the why and how stuff works of things. Maybe it's the Engineering/Physics background in me. I still like the CCN as he appears to be very knowledgeable and a very good experienced...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

I remembered 0W-20 for other countries but not 5w30. Didn't know that video was discussed previously. It did make sense as anything that is suppose to perform variable fluid pressure has to take into account the liquid viscosity. A water pressure washer will not make the advertised PSI pumping...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Is not 5w30 too thick for this engine? CCN advises against such because the electronic variable oil pump is calibrated to 0W-16. (View minute 6:26)

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

Yes, I know! But it's the Caribbean; so it's also very humid. So far I'm keeping my 6mo/5k OCI to minimize fuel dilution/water condensation. Since I'm low mileage driver my 6mo/5k OCI is actually more like a 6mo/3-4k OCI.

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

It was pointed out on another forum of an UOA for a Rav4 Hybrid (short trips) which has the same A25A-FXS engine as my car. I was really surprised of the high fuel dilution of 5+% and 2.2% with only 4,978 miles and 3,106 miles of oil usage respectively. Didn't expect that from a hybrid which...

Toyota / Lexus A25A-FXS Hybrid engine oil questions

In my case is about $90 every other 6mo service, but I really don't mind the additional oil change cost. I view them as a small investment/insurance given the vehicle cost. Until warranty, and free yearly oil changes, expires at 4yr/4k I'll keep doing them at the dealership. I still have to be...
