Little late to this thread but I use the 15w40 supertech full synthetic diesel oil and have a used oil analysis after 4700 miles. Excellent additive package. TBN strong at 6.2 after that mileage and blackstone said to run it 6500 miles and come back. They were impressed! I was too. Im sold...
I ran Amalie 5w50 on my TT Mercedes V8 CLS which is tuned balls to the wall. For around 25k miles. 5k intervals. It was smooth sailing. Oil is oil nearly. Just change it often. I like the NAPA 15w50 as it's Valvoline and their base oils are just superior in every way hell them **** Saudis...
It isn't a bad oil. 5k intervals and you will be fine. I agree with your tuner. The 15w50 Mobil 1 is like $25 for 5 quarts on Walmart dot com. It's the same crap almost as 5w50. Only thing is on cold starts it's slightly and I mean ever so slightly thicker. You aren't going to damage them...
It's ok man but I'd say Mobil 1 is just as good. I had her good luck running 15w50 from Napa. It's Valvoline oil with a Napa brand and its usually $3.50-$4.75 a quart on sale. Unless you live in -15 degrees or colder starts. Just run that. It's solid oil.
I'll run a Blackstone on moly EP additive with 5w40 Valvoline premium blue and see how it goes or Supertech Full Synthetic 15w40 diesel oil. Although I know for a fact Moly EP doesn't show Micron moly as particles are larger than molybdenum on regular chart. It has antimony as well.
It was a bi polar response and comment. Lol. I was talking about two different types of oil changes and oils. One was 15w50 NAPA with VR1 20w50 (with Schaeffer's) and secondly was Supertech Full Synthetic 15w40 diesel oil with Motul classic 15w50 2 quarts in 8.9 quart system ( with no...
But do we add the one pint per 4-5 quarts per Schaeffer's recommendation? Like I'm running a tuned twin turbo V8 Mercedes and it calls for 0w40. But I run 15w40 or 15w50 mixed with 40 and it is fine. But if I added the whole quart of Moly it got to the point where engine felt sluggish...
Okay but there is better oils that are cheaper. I have TBN to show it and how the oils shear down as well. You do you. That oil isn't all that. It's a mid range oil.
I know all about this oil. Shell has reduced their additives in it over the years. I see guys run it but I find it no better than Castrol or some other junk. Mobil delvac 5w40 is better than this oil and uses more of a PAO. That oil I've seen lots of guys having bearing failures in my BMW...
Zero moly almost , zinc is lower than it used to be along with Phosphorus. This oil has been down graded over the years. Super tech VOA 15w40 FS diesel oil is superior to this. I have a VOA and UOA to show this on 5k intervals.
Yeah it's a good deal if you need 5w50. But Mobil sells 15w50 which is very similar besides cold start flow. For 5 quarts for $25 I think. Honestly best pricing on 15w50 is Napa when it's on sale. It's Valvoline oil very good sh it
