Ultima is the only one I've used since I like it so much. Leaves some protection behind as well. Usually like trying new detail products but have stuck with Ultima. Just used some yesterday and probably need to order some more soon. Nice scent too.

My mom's '21 Corolla non-hybrid 1.8 does the same thing. Just don't go over 6 months/5k miles between intervals. Her car only has 9800 miles. Meanwhile, the '12 Camry uses a little bit of oil between intervals.

It should release by pushing it all the way forward as far as it can go. Have you tried that yet? You may have to move that rubber hose a little so it can move forward a little more to release. Also use your leg / foot on the pedal.

Try some AC Delco Friction Modified mtf in it to see if it helps; or ask the dealer service department if there's a tsb to use that for the 2nd gear grind. Not the first time Honda has gone this route. First time was with the 05-07 Accord V6 manuals (and Acura TL). You can read more...

A '14-18 Corolla L (base model) has the 4 speed auto versus the cvt in higher trims. Seems to have a more refined ride than previous gen. Probably in the same price range also.
