Timing Chain Cover Oil Leak - Toyota Matrix

I'm thinking that adhesion of the RTV will be critical to success... if it doesn't stick well enough on both side of the leak point, I imagine that oil will just seep out underneath I always thought that "gasket maker" RTV would harden into a custom gasket -- but one that could be removed in...

Timing Chain Cover Oil Leak - Toyota Matrix

I'm starting to think that putting on some RTV -- instead of Permatex Spay Sealant -- might be a better idea, simply because I suspect the spray sealant will end up creating a massive mess, since I can barely get back in there to mask things off, let alone hold the spray can... plus since it's...

additional info: before the photos were taken, I had a mechanic spray all oily areas with brake cleaner, then I drove car for a week... source of leak appears to be coming from where I've indicated (ie., not oil pan, not crank pulley)

clarification to my OP... I meant to say: "clearly, the gasket sealant has failed, and thus some oil is able to escape..."

the timing chain cover uses sealant (RTV) from the factory... it is not a gasket

Timing Chain Cover Oil Leak - Toyota Matrix

hello: I have a 2005 Toyota Matrix, which has a slow leak coming from the timing chain cover leaking at the rear side, at the 3-way junction where the head, block, and timing chain cover meet up... this also happens to be where the timing chain tensioner is located (a known leak point, but...
