    M54 valve cover

And that big mess is why I love my M50TU in my 1994 325is coupe. Metal valve cover (magnesium I think) and the simplest crankcase ventilation system. I have never seen any of that. I live in Boise area with variable winters in terms of temperature. Granted the M50tu does not have the performance...

EA888 how many go by the 10k mile factory recommended OCI...

I had a 2016 Audi A4 and still have 2016 Passat 1.8L. 5000 mile OCI with filter at the same time. I have never owned a turbocharged engine and this interval helps my piece of mind. It is easy for me to remember every 5000 + I do it myself so not too expensive. I take advantage of Mobil 1 Spring...

Audi A4 vs Volkswagen CC...or good old Passat?

I have a 2016 Audi A4, sport package, the top radio system, MT. I don't test-drive a lot of cars, but this car does everything perfectly. The better seats come with the sport package. Ride is firm and comfortable at the same time (I don't know how engineers do that). The shift quality feels...

post your latest differential fluid change

Hi Sam Julier, I own the same year Volvo wagon. I believe the manual states diff fluid at 500-1000 miles then there is no interval after that. 20,000 mile OCI refers to the ATF. Nevertheless, diff fluid is inexpensive and easy to change.

oil for BMW m50tu and m52tu

I bought a 94 325is 2.5 years ago. The well-respected European car shop owner/mechanic told me that 10W30 was fine for the M50tu. So I have been using my favorite, Pennzoil 10W30. Engine performs well, sounds great. ON the whole, Boise climate is not too hot save for 2-3 weeks late July-early...

Looking for a car for the kid, Part 2

This thread has turned funny. I recall listening to Click & Clack on NPR one Saturday. A young college girl was describing the problem with her car. They could not stop laughing when she told them it was a Buick Roadmaster wagon. One of the brothers replied "a bigger beast there never was". Ah...

Please help me with the selection of an "MTF"

Your concerns relate to your 2017 Maxda 6 correct? Are you going to endanger your vehicle warranty with aftermarket fluids? Your tranaxle is still breaking in. IF you feel compelled to do something, then use the OE fluid.

Euro Cars Used to be Very Reliable

"Yep that Volvo 240 was monster from 0-60" LOL. Love that. Owned two 240s. Despite being only a tad faster than a snail, I liked them. Don't know if it was the funky rocker switches on the instrument panel or perhaps it being a good car to learn how to do repair/maintenance. The engine bay was...

Thin oil for better winter performance

I have owned a few BMWs now, three with M54 engine and my present E36 is the M50tu engine. All of them share a personality change from summer to winter. They are much more enjoyable to drive in the summer. I'm all for experimenting. I don't think you need/want a HTHS of 3.7 and higher in the...

If you don't mind mail order, study Ravenol MTF-2.

    Pennzoil Euro 5W-40 vs 0W-40

Verify the specification under the hood. It will probably be 502 or both 502 & 504 oil spec. You need to make sure that's what you use since you are still under warranty.

    VW G 055 532 VOA

Yes, I'm sure most would agree with you. The early change is an old school BMW maintenance service. I have owned more BMWs, just this one Audi. But, the shift quality is better with the new fluid.

    VW G 055 532 VOA

I changed out the Manual transaxle fluid at 1200 miles in my new Audi A4. VW/Audi G 055 532 is the specified manufacturer's fluid for replacement. This is for the latest series of A4. I don't know what other Audi/VW models this goes in. The overall shifting quality is mildly notchy but better...

    Synchromax in dart c635

If this was my car, I would do the following in this order: 1. Since it is under warranty, I'd have the dealer check it out. If the dealer thinks this is normal operating behavior, then 2. Wait until the weather is warmer, then pass judgment on the shift quality. 3. If I still could not stand...

Ughh Winter Tires! Pirelli, Continental or Gislave

You might pick up the latest issue of Car & Driver. They did a winter tire review. Michelin x-ice3 just one point under the top rated Nokian H.
