Interesting find: Petro Canada Duron XL 15W40

Duron XL 15/40 is my go-to oil since they quit making the 10/40. My current motorcycle's transmission is very sensitive to the oil. I can go 6000 kms without the transmission getting excessively "notchy". I tried the Rotella 15/40 (got it real cheap) and the transmission was notchy right from...

    my take on chain lube

I've been using Belray Superclean after trying out several other products. It is expensive. I don't spray it on. Spray into a cup and apply with a small paint brush. On a clean, dry, warm chain. It dries fairly fast in low humidity and on a warm day. It does not fling or attract dirt. It lives...

    Best Dry Lube?

"According" to wd40 their Specialist dry lube outperforms the competition. They do post some testing results. I've used the Dupont Dry Film lube. Pretty good for bicycle chains.

    Trying Linux...

If you need wireless, you stand a better chance of getting it to work with PclinuxOS. Depends on the hardware of course. Some wireless hardware is well supported.

PCLinuxOS on a WD Passport 160 GB external drive

I've been a Pclos user and supporter for some time. It really deserves it's number one ranking. Hard to believe this little one-man show has displaced Ubuntu which is backed by a billionare and a huge community. Hats off to Texstar. Pclos is the only distro that work seamlessly with my laptops...

    Compressing .jpeg photos for e-mailing

I always take photos in the highest quality my camera is capable of. Save them to disk in jpeg which most cameras do as default anyways. I, ulimately, put them on cds. If you decide to make a large print or poster in the future, you want all the megapixels you can get. Remember, making a photo...

What's the Closest That You've Come to Dying?

Almost drown in a pool full of cubscouts when I was 6/7. Almost shot myself when I was 11 or 12. 22 shell fell out of my shirt pocket into campfire. Thought I was dying when I had a kidney stone. Over 40 years of riding motorcycles with no real near death experiences. Worked and still work...

whats the story on oil bath wheel bearings?

Oil bath bearings are a pain. I remember more than one eighteen wheeler shedding their wheels due to no oil. You cannot always see through the sight glass. The only way to really be sure is too remove the rubber plug and stick your finger in. Often times the rubber plug disintegrates due to...

    over 90% of "Bob's Guys/Girls" Illiterate?

Well, thanks for pointing out a possible contradiction. ignorant "adjective 1. uneducated in general; lacking knowledge or sophistication; "an ignorant man"; "nescient of contemporary literature"; "an unlearned group incapable of understanding complex issues"; "exhibiting contempt for his...

    over 90% of "Bob's Guys/Girls" Illiterate?

"If you recognize a weakness in yourself, such as an inability to spell, or use the correct word in a sentence, but do nothing about it, what does that make you?" Lazy.

    over 90% of "Bob's Guys/Girls" Illiterate?

"illiterate" may not be the right word to use to describe those who make spelling errors according to the definition. Myself and others may not have the benefits of higher learning or great spelling skills but this does not make us stupid, illiterate, or ignorant.

"Best" OTC dino 20W-50 out there ???

I like the looks of Union76 20/50. No VOAs or UOAs here, but the specs sure look impressive.

Need all-terrain tire recommendation for pickup

Thanks for all the recommendations and info. Unfortunately, those tire shops selling Michelin, BFG, and Goodyear were not interested in my almost new Generals in trade unless they got them for nothing. I certainly do not have the desire or room to keep them. I might have got more interest in...

    Suffated ash?

Ash is also said to help cushion valve to valve seat. I think ash is more related to detergent levels. Diesel powered engines need more cleaning agents, thus the high ash numbers. Chevron Delo 15/40 at 1.41 and Union76 Royal Triton at 1.62 are good examples of diesel oils designed for...

    Public restrooms

Public toilets are bad enough. I really hate it when you have to retrieve a key to get in. My fave gas station started this practise and I complained bitterly to the clerk whilst she proceeded to handle the key and wrap a donut to go, for a customer (NOT ME). If I am desperate enough to ask...
