    4L60E shudder- Lucas Red?

Local auto show on radio recommends trying a complete flush when you have a shudder. This may solve problem if torque converter has not gone to far.

    should I stick with M1 10-30?

Would recommend you do an oil analysis for your particular engine and get advice from other owners of the 8.1.

RL 5w-30 or 5w-40 for low mileage 5.3 Gurus?

I have a '00 5.3 Silverado. Mobil 1 performs well, and two UOAs indicate it maintains its viscosity of a 30W. Redline would probably outperform Mobil 1. The preferred oil for the 5.3 engine is 5-30 as indicated in your owner's manual. It seems like a thin oil, but my experience is it protects well.

    Any AMSOIL ATF Success Stories?

Has anyone used AMSOIL ATF for a long period of time with success? What do you think drain intervals should be? AMSOIL advertises that the ATF will last up to 3 times the life of dino ATF, which most recommend changing NLT 30K. My concern is would AMSOIL be good for 90K? Or do users of AMSOIL...

    Does anyone use single grade

I used Quaker State straight 30W is a '91 Ford Explorer. I bought the car used with 71K and retired the car with 187K (117K miles on QS 30W)due to transmission and body problems. Engine was beginning to use one-half quart between 3K oil changes at 187K. I live in a relatively warm climate, low...

    5w 50 made it worse

I have a '00 Z71 with the "infamous" GM tick. However, it does not tick when engine is warm. Not sure we have the same problem, but you may want to try a fuel injection system flush using BG advanced formula. This cleans the air intake system and "Combustion Chambers" where GM says the tick...

    M1 10-30, '94 Celica, 1.8 7AFE

TR3 - Thanks. I am using a AC-Delco filter. Will give Pureone try on next change along with Techron. Mobil 1 may be best, but my goal is not extended drain intervals. I run synthetic because Toyotas are "high-heat" engines and I was hopeful syn would maintain better viscosity and prevent...

    M1 10-30, '94 Celica, 1.8 7AFE

Jay - I bought an imported engine that had 26K. The engine had been reconditioned with new lifters, valves, and seals. I have driven 27K+. My last UOA was about 1 year (14K miles) ago. At the time I was using Castrol 10-40 dino which revealed good wear and no problems, except the 10-40 has...

    M1 10-30, '94 Celica, 1.8 7AFE

Anyone know what is meant by the Flashpoint being "short"? Is it below standard? What causes high insoluble rate besides need of a tuneup as mentioned by Al. Thanks to Al and YZF. (Please note that previous UOA was Castrol 10-40 (dino)which had gone to 30wt within 2K miles. This is a DOHC...

    GM ENGINES KNOCK

dragboat - I have a 5.3 with lower end knock (audible if you stand by driver's side wheel well) for about 10-15 seconds upon start-up, hot or cold. Copper was 21 per Blackstone. It's strange that if you restart the engine within 2-3 minutes after turn-off, there is no knock. In your opinion...

    Mobil 1 5W-30 Supersyn, Silverado 5.3 (2000 model)

luphy - I purchased this truck in March 2000. Ran Quaker State 10-30 for the first 8000 miles and switched to Mobil 1 5W-30 at that time. Mobil 1 has been only oil for last 16K+ miles. I went to Supersyn about March of 2002 when it first came out. Oil was in engine for 2 months, 11 days. (2nd...

Ted - I understand you to say AMSOIL 0W-30 could be the best oil for my application? Thanks!
