In my humble opinion when we step back from elitism about oil -- bouquet, cost, nation of origin, what goes better with dark meat or white meat -- the real question is what will make my engine work better AND LAST LONGER.
When I discussed oil viscosity with my mechanic, who races 400hp Civics...
Actually Carroll Smith says to use garnet paper (a very smooth, non-metal imbedded sandpaper) not emery cloth to clean the rotors in the Stoptech article.

I've got the same AEM ceramic pads on my Prelude and they're great for the street but would never take them up the level you're using them at. I suspect its the temperature the pads have reached on the track that renders them useless.
Cross-drilled and slotted rotors are just $$ in the pocket...
I've got the same 91 Prelude with a B21A1 engine that has 175,000 miles on it. It uses about 1 quart every 1,000 miles. I've had Castrol Syntec 5W50 in there during the heat of summer and Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 during the Canadian winter. The consumption seems to be about the same. I've noticed...
I was poking through an engine rebuilding book and noticed a reference to an engine flush products containing ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, or Butyl "Cellosolve." Further names for this chemical include the 2-butoxy-ethanol (CAS #111-76-2) that is used in the Liqui Moly Oil Sludge Remover...
Thanks for the input guys.
My mechanic is a 20-year pro who started out on hondas and now services BMWs and Mercedes, while still keeping an eye on the little guys like me. I don't think he would recommend a product that would kill an expensive German engine. He also thinks that Hondas succumb...
My mechanic looked at the oil consumption on my 1991 Prelude with 160k miles and said it was probably caused by the oil rings being plugged. He suggested either Liqui Moly 2059 Engine Flush or 2523 Oil sludge remover, both made by a long-time German lubrication firm.
The Engine Flush is a...
