Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

If I didn't post this years ago, here's an updated UOA for Honda's MTF that Amsoil dealer Pablo requested. After buying the car I changed to Amsoil's Synchromesh almost right away. After the first UOA -- and hearing of two similar problems from my buds over at 9thCivic.com, I switched...

___________________ If I didn't post one years ago when this issue first came up, will post something now. Have several UOA's since this episode.

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

_____________________ The problem disappeared immediately after using the OEM MTF. Blackstone confirms huge improvement. That 2012 Si now has 86,000 miles, no issues at all. Tranny has been bulletproof despite two teenage drivers new to manuals. To confirm, UOA stabilized at...

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

___________________ jeez... totally forgot about this thread. Sorry guys. 9thCivic user Squiggy and I had nearly identical results with Amsoil Manual Synchromesh Tranny Fluid 5W-30. According to Amsoil reference material it's exactly what 9th gen Si's use, which is interesting since...

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

Well, Pablo, there appears to be nobody yet interested in this issue except you, and based on your acerbic language I take it you've made up your mind even before the discussion gets interesting. Like you, I'm an Amsoil dealer myself and spent a week with Amsoil's chief chemist Troy...

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

I found another 9th Civic member (search mikey6P) posting this last October: I ran amsoil exclusively for about 60k miles (honda mtf -> amsoil->amsoil) at about 20k intervals. Tranmission got progressively louder over time. Rebuilt at 80k and EVERY bearing in the transmission was toast. Done...

Oxidation is caused by heat, nothing else. The initial oxidation (in the bottle) is therefore zero (0).. and a reading of 43 is high given only 4000 miles on the lube.

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

I was not aware of any long term problems with this tranny. I do know the 2012 SI (mine) has the same limited slip tranny as the Acura TSX. So perhaps we can find something from the Acura TSX boards. TSB's even... For now, do you (iluvhonda) have any info on the 'troubled' history of...

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

Excellent research Hang! ... Yes, the UOA you attached is mine. Last name, however, is Bartlow not Bartlon. As you can see the car is virtually new. Wear metals are generally higher in a newer engine/tranny, right? Still, Oil Analyzers dismissed this new car theory by listing...

Absolutely... I will post any and all information. Let me run through the rest of these responses and I will post both my UOA (from Oil Analyzers) and a couple revealing pics.

You are wise to question this. In fact, as an Amsoil dealer of some 15 years I hate to even bring this up. But in the interest of fairness and FYI, I will proceed....

Amsoil MTF - Honda owners beware?

At least a few of us (at 9thcivic.com) have recently noticed very questionable results from using Amsoil MTF in our manual transmissions. In my case the wear metals are sky high, borderline critical. All cars are within a year old. I tested mine because somebody claims to have lost a...
