    Distilled water

We have deionized water at the plant in the QC lab and battery room. We were told to to change the resin tanks because no one was sure when they were changed last. We just checked the conductivity of the water in several units and found they had about 1 megaohm of resistance. Common tap water...

    Reversibility

I'm still hoping to get a reply from the NLGI but found some info on a Whitmore's data sheet for one of their greases. here's an exerpt. "Good reversibility properties can be defined as the ability of the grease to maintain (or revert to) its normal consistency (NLGI grade) after it has been...

    Reversibility

I was kind of curious as to what test method they used also so I submitted the question to NLGI. It's not just a Schaeffer's test as I have seen this mentioned on techical papers and data sheet's but never how they performed the test. when I get an answer from them I'll post it.

Sulfonated technology and Calcium Sulfonate Greases

My pesonal belief is that overbased calcium sulfonate will become the primary thickener used for food grade greases. The calcite particles(5000 angstrom's from one paper) lay down on the metel surface in a fish scale like layer giving the surface corrosion resistance and good AW/EP attributes...

    Hydraulic Powered Cars

I think this is a great idea, this was touched upon about two months ago in STLE's TLT magazine. If I remember correctly they where running an accumulater at around 5k psi with ATF. They figured maximum effeciency would be obtained at 10k but the compressability of the fluid was holding them...

LC appears to darken my oil considerably

"Should I keep pushing to 8k miles despite the oil darkening this time around more than normally? I know that color is a poor indicator of oil condition, but if it's darkening because of suspended contaminants, I'm not sure I want to go another 4k miles." You could do a blotter test with a...

A new site for BITOG'ers to talk politics

That's a good idea, I signed up to. My wife is getting tired of listening to my solutions to the current problems of the world anyway.

I'll second the Raytec Minitemp, they seem to be well made for a decent price. I got mine through MSC for use at work, a really handy device to have.

    Schrade is Out of Business

Thats a shame,I always liked Schrade,in fact I just started carring a Shrade Scrimshaw after losing my Craftsman stockman in the barn cutting strings off of some hay bales I also carry a Spyderco and a Gerber multiplier. Your right about people not carrying knives anymore, when I was in school...
