    What will dissolve melted plastic?

DEET (yes, I'm talking about the mosquito repellant). It melts plastic like you wouldn't believe. Get the high concentration kind, above 50%. 100% if you can find it.

    Project: DuckHead Arm

This contraption works just fine. The limitations are due to the HF components. The suppled wheel locking "nut" is crude and will scratch wheels because it does not have a cone to center the hole. Of course, I've since created some cone inserts to remedy that. Also, I also cut some carpet...

Pics of Head Topside. 160k 15 y/o Mazda

Hi Folks... Just providing some background data for the sake of it.... FWIW, this engine is naturally high-revving. The vehicle is a 5 speed manual, driven mostly by my wife -and she's a speed demon. In town while shifting thru gears, this engine spends a lot of time up and down to the 3500 RPM...

Pics of Head Topside. 160k 15 y/o Mazda

FYI: Had to replace the valve cover gasket on our 2007 Mazda 6 w/ 160k miles. Snapped a photo for all to see. We're the original owners. In the last 5 years, it mainly sees local trips of 3-10 miles. Vehicle gets new oil/filter every 5k miles. In the first half of life, I usually used Walmart...

    YouTuber's Long Term Tests

The fellow that's doing long term car wax and ceramic sealer tests has published his latest 5 month review. My personal favorite traditional car waxes (Collinite) are still hanging in there but showing slight signs of weakening. Not bad for a 5 month test especially since they are competing with...

    Project: DuckHead Arm

There's a mod for the Harbor Freight tire changer that I've wanted to make for a while. I had the day off today and fiddled a little this afternoon. The link is a commercial unit sold on eBay for about $349. Pretty steep price if you ask me...

    Hot or Cold oil change?

Collecting the sample after a short engine run will likely show higher fuel dilution if you're doing an oil analysis. Of course, after a long run, the engine could be allowed to cool before collecting the sample. I've changed oil on fairly large engines (V12 Twin Turbo, 1200 HP, MANN Diesel)...

    Worried About My Dog

One of my dogs has really bad tartar build-up even though I brush their teeth (all 3 dogs) every couple days. One of them is 13 years old now and I'm afraid the procedure will be too hard on her. The vet will put her under anesthesia and wanted $600 to clean her teeth. Does anybody know if other...

Anyone know what this is? Found in my house.

My guess was a transom window counterweight spring. The old transom windows had either a chain or rope to counter-balance the weight of the window to make it easier to open or close.

Not sure why but the report won't show in the original post so I'm reposting a PDF version. EDIT: Duh... looks like there's a website problem...

    Modified Milesyn 0w20 5120 miles 2018 Mazda3 2.5L

The base oil is modified Milesyn full synthetic with 10ml Max ZDDP and 4oz Liqui Moly #2009. 5120 miles on the oil over spring and summer. Filter was a Fram Ultra. There was no make-up oil and there was no perceptible oil loss based on the amount drained out. The sample was taken after a short...
