1987 Montero, new head, mechanic says...

I have a 1987 Mitsubishi Montero, 2.6L I4 engine with 150k miles. I just installed a new head (2-valve to replace the notorious 3-valve "jet" head) and am currently breaking it in. The mechanic who supplied the head (and is widely considered "the" expert on this particular engine) told me to use...

1987 Montero and Castrol Limited Slip 80W-90

It's time to drain and refill the rear axle on my 1987 Mitsubishi Montero, which has the factory limited slip differential. I went to the local auto parts store for the appropriate SAE90 GL5 oil, where I spotted Castrol Limited Slip 80W-90 and thought "great! No additive pack to put in". When...

Thanks! You don't think the -40 is needed for the age/mileage on the motors?

Mitsubishi oil question - (2) vehicles

In the stable, we currently have 2 Mitsubishis: 1) 1997 Montero Sport, 3.0l V6, 101k miles. Wife's car, daily driver, sees about 50 miles per day of to and from work, most of it being 50-55mph. It's only when she goes through town that she has to drop to 25 mph. 2) 1987 Montero, 2.6l I4, 143k...

Is there a downside to DELO?

My understanding is that Chevron DELO is designed for use in diesel engines, and its additive package is optimized for that environment. Is there ANY downside to using it in a gasoline engine?

New engine in Suzuki: oil recommendations?

Oh, man, I really shouldn't hang out around this place... Should I go to the trouble of loading it with that miracle elixir, German Castrol? Lots of people seem very impressed with it; if it will help the longevity of a notoriously short-lived engine, I'll do it. Also, anyone with good...

New engine in Suzuki: oil recommendations?

Man, I thought I needed some of this super-duper Redline or Royal Purple or Unobtainium XLV...now you tell me I've been doing things right all along?!? It's funny, though...my Dad always told me, from the time I was old enough to know what oil was, to always buy Havoline. I always thought it...

New engine in Suzuki: oil recommendations?

I'm about to purchase a rebuilt engine for my '88 Suzuki Samurai. For those not "in the know", the engine is an aluminum block 1.3l carbureted unit. Unfortunately, these engines do not have a sterling reputation for longevity; they are reliable, but by the time they hit 80k-100k miles it's not...

    Brownells Action Lube grease

New to the forums, and boy am I learning a lot! Thanks to all. I have a question: I've been using, and very pleased with, Brownells Action Lube Plus on double action revolver sears. It's a very light black grease. My question is: can anyone take a SWAG as to the formulation, and who makes it...
