I’d follow the advice of edyvw and go with the Castrol 0w40. A few weeks back I swapped out OEM M Power 5w30 for Castrol 0w40. His advice kept me from using Motul 5w30 LL01FE oil in my car for which I am grateful. Now I just have to find a home for that oil!

Haven’t driven much in the last year!
2008 BMW 328i sold a few years to my brother at 210k had the original battery. He still has the car, runs like it’s got 50k still with the orig battery working fine.
I’m right there with you. We had an ATF fluid exchange done on our E53 X5 4.4 around 75k and it returned to it’s normal, velvety shifting self again. That car drove as well as it did new when we sold it around 100k. I like the Mike Miller ‘Old School BMW Maintenance’ method and have tried to...
Very nice machine, that X6! I have noticed similar oil temps (205-215) with my car in normal driving, and I’ll say I have never seen it above 250 even on hard mountain runs. I suppose on track that would change. At the recommendation of a member here I decided not to run the Motul Specific...
That is a great car with a great engine-BMW’s last and finest naturally aspirated straight-six. With a I ran my ‘08 to 212k and sold it to my brother who loves it and takes same great care of it. I ran BMW OEM 5w30 until 130k then switched to Valvoline Euro then Total 5w40. 7-8k OCI was the...
I think I know who that is :) I wrote to him years ago asking about a few things for my ‘02 and got a nice response. Love the Old School Maintenance plan! I’d suspect that keeping the coolant level like that eases the load on the tank and other cooling system components since it’s under such...
The biggest concern I have for the hot vee engines like the N63 or S63 is the underhood heat and it’s long term effect on the plastic components as others have stated. I cannot believe how much heat they throw off and am beyond amazed at the engineering involved in keeping these things cool...
For what it’s worth...we have a 2011 Highlander with the 2GR-FE that had been fed only Toyota/OEM 0w20 synthetic (except for one OCI with Mobil 1 0w20) until it’s last change where I used NAPA 0w20 synthetic. It had the startup clatter and generally was a loud, clattery thing at idle. No issues...
Hey Kevin, It’s a bottom mount cartridge filter, 9.5 quarts. Takes a bit longer to drain to empty the oil cooler, but a pretty straightforward process once you get the beast up in the air. I bet that e30 M3 is fun!
That N52 will run forever, with gasket changes being the only issue. I ran about 7-8k OCI on my 2008 328i through 220k and it was clean as a whistle. I did the valve cover gasket twice, replacing the cover and gasket the second time. My brother now owns the car and it runs as good as the day I...
