Under Hood Work Lights - What Do You Use?

I bought an underhood light mount on closeout from Eastwood. I made little inserts for the mounts so any magnetic base lights will stick to it. I've got a selection of rechargeable lights to pair with it. As a bonus It works great for interior work too.

Remaining Fuel when your vehicle shows “E”

The running a tank low killing fuel pumps never made much sense to me either. Maybe my thinking is flawed, but as long as you're actually still pulling fuel through the pump it's being cooled by the fuel it's pumping though it, even if there isn't enough in the tank for the pump to be fully...

What can I apply over boat wax

Collinite 885 is a non-cleaner wax that you can layer, and the durability is also excellent.

Post your Gas Mileage : Calculated

Kawasaki Z125 Pro: 87 octane price per gal.- $4.399 Miles driven- 89 Gallons used- 0.860 MPG- 103.49 Cost- $3.78 10mpg increase since the last fill up and the only difference is temperature. Amazing how much easier it is for 9hp to push through 85 vs 55 degree air.

Remaining Fuel when your vehicle shows “E”

1.9 gallon reserve from a 14.8 gallon tank. The few times I've run the tank down far enough to see the low fuel light the indicated reserve is pretty accurate.

    Chemical Guys Carnauba

I've used Collinite 885 on my car since it was pretty much new. It's not a pure carnuba but it doesn't have any cleaners in it so I usually clay and light polish before application. When my car lived outside I'd give it a polish and wax twice once in the spring and then again in the fall and...

Post your Gas Mileage : Calculated

Weather was warm enough for the first real ride and fuel up of the year on my 2018 Kawi Z125. Filled up at the local Shell station... 92 miles travelled and 0.98 gallons consumed= 93.8mpg. Not my best, but almost exactly 3x what my car averages so I'll take it.

Cheap cars that get good MPG you would buy now!

Living in the rust belt really sucks. I'd love to find a manual SW2 that isn't falling apart, and the same goes for that sweet focus wagon.

Oil Filter Wrenches Tested by Torque Test Channel

I've had the same stamped steel end cap style for 20 years as it's the only one that has a chance of removing the filter from where it's buried. I do all the oil changes on the car so it isn't really necessary anymore as I don't crank on it when I install a new one, but it's nice to use an...

How to safely remove VHB tape residue from paint?

Is the tape on paint or glass? If it's on the paint, use a hairdryer or a heatgun and a plastic razor blade to pry up an edge and try and peel off as much as possible. Goo gone is fine to remove any adhesive residue left behind. Put some on a rag and let it sit for a bit to soften it. Just make...

Painters over sprayed on my tailgate glass, best way to remove it without damage?

Don't overthink this man. I've cleaned more windows than I care to count with 0000 sw and never had a problem with scratches, and the same goes for razor blades. Just thank your lucky stars you're not having to remove cheap tint on the inside of the glass. A truly awful job.

Painters over sprayed on my tailgate glass, best way to remove it without damage?

0000 steel wool and plain glass cleaner. Just don't use the steel wool on the inside rear glass, you'll kill the defroster lines . A razor blade would also work but would take considerably longer.

    Engine Break-in

I have two vehicles I purchased new so both broken in by me. The first is an '03 VW GTI 1.8t that I followed the factory recommendations for break in as far as engine rpms go, but I remember changing the oil at 1000 miles. At 178k now and has never consumed any measurable amount of oil between...

Your Current Favorite 3/8th drive Ratchet ?

I had to replace a frozen caliper on my aunt's car this past weekend and I can't recommend the Diehard 3/8 flex head ratchet from Advance Auto enough. It's a good length to give you leverage without being too unwieldy, has a nice tight flex joint, and really low back drag. For 30-ish bucks it's...
