New Video: RESULTS: What Valvoline Restore and Protect does to engines after 500K+ miles

Like you said, it’s 500k miles with modern low tension rings, GDI, turbo. Varnish will accumulate gradually until it becomes a problem. Valvoline is showing you the solution though so I wouldn’t discount them so quickly.

New Video: RESULTS: What Valvoline Restore and Protect does to engines after 500K+ miles

Friends, it’s important to remember that the video results shown were not made by an independent lab. So take their results with a grain of salt. Secondly, as it was mentioned, removing and replacing the pistons will probably perturb the rings and free them, at least minimally. Thirdly, if...

Valvoline Restore and Protect in BMW

I’m not having any issues but I do use high saps LL01 oils and my OCI’s have generally been around 7k miles. Like with hair loss, my thinking is that it would be easier to manage the earlier you get on it. Perhaps Valvoline Restore and Protect from time to time would keep sludge or carbon at bay...

Valvoline Restore and Protect in BMW

What are your thoughts on running this oil in a euro car (bmw b48 in my case)? Looks like it’s API SP. would it make sense (be safe) to run one or two oil changes with this oil to reduce internal carbon build up around rings and in the turbo? Motor has roughly 110k miles.

If Mobil 1 0w40 was on the list, would that be your first choice over the Castrol?

Help choose oil for 2018 BMX X1

Oil temp at the filter was around 100C but the sump stayed pretty cold, maybe causing extra drag on the crank?… I don’t know for sure. Regardless, thanks for the input. LL01 oil has me worried about calcium content causing LSPI, is that a valid concern in your opinion?

Help choose oil for 2018 BMX X1

Update: On the Mobil 1 Euro 0W40 I got poor highway gas mileage during the recent cold spell, my oil sump temp stayed around 65 Celsius (150F) when it was -20c outside (-4F). Normally I’d get 33-39mpg at 65mph but instead I was getting 28-35mpg. This is of course anecdotal as I don’t have...

Help choose oil for 2018 BMX X1

I ended up picking the Mobil 1 0W-40 European formula (LL-01 on the bottle). It turned out there was much less to choose from on actual store shelves. It was between this and Pennzoil Euro 5W-30 (non L/LX), there was no 0w in the pennzoil available. My rationale was largely based on the fact...

Help choose oil for 2018 BMX X1

The Mobil 1 European formula 5w-40 is on sale too. It specifically states it’s compatible with LL-01 but my owners manual doesn’t say anything about using a 40 viscosity… any reason to go that direction?
