CK-4 Diesel Oil for old 6.0l PowerStroke?

I live in Minnesota. I am going to chime in. 6.0 is a great motor. I also have a 2007 with 150k miles pulling 14k-19k pound rv trailers all its life. It's been bulletproofed and not one single issue! Go to www.bulletproofdiesel.com and get a lot of info and buy an air-to air BPD oil cooler...

    Ford vs Chevy

Ford, no question. I've owned both and have worked at both. However, I do think Chevy made rock solid engines in the 80s and 90s, the 350 was an awesome motor. But Chevy was notorious for multiple issues, dash electronics, gauges, brakes, erosion of brake lines in Midwest, leaking rear ends. I...

    Amsoil ADN 10w30

I am currently using the Amsoil ADN 10w30. On paper it does look incredibly stout. I will run a UOA in a couple more thousand miles. I used it all winter up here in Minnesota, 0 starting issues.

    2 Million Mile Detroit Diesel

2 million miles is A LOT of miles. Neighbor has a 2007 5.9 Cummins Ram 2500, he used to drive OTR with CAT and Cummins motors. Said Delvac was simply the best diesel engine oil for longevity. He uses Delvac 1 5w40 exclusively in his 5.9 with 278,000 miles. Got me started with Delvac myself, Who...

    DELVAC 1 ESP 5W30

Great point. I contacted my local Delvac distributor, they were not overly helpful, but did say the Delvac 1 ESP 5w30 and Delvac 1 ESP 5w40 were top tier oils in the industry. He said the 5w30 was specifically engineered with the highest level of wear protection and last up to 100,000 miles in...

    DELVAC 1 ESP 5W30

Feel like I totally wasted money on the Delvac. Definitely do not want the good ol' 6.0 to wear prematurely, the 2020 Ford 6.7's are way too expensive. Thank you for the explanation. I have 2k miles left on this run of the Delvac. Will switch over to either Amsoil 5w30 HDD or Rotella T5. The...

    DELVAC 1 ESP 5W30

I thought the Magnesium at 845 ppm would make up for it (lack of P)? I do not see many oils with calcium, Zn, P, magnesium together as an additive package. It's usually a load of calcium with little or no Magnesium. The Delo 400 LE 5w30 CJ-4 I ran previously had identical Zn P levels, but no...

    DELVAC 1 ESP 5W30

For those who are interested :), I just got back the VOA on Delvac 1 ESP 5W30 from Blackstone. I did not get the TBN, however for the UOA I will. I am currently using this oil in a 2007 6.0 powerstroke and a Kubota L4100 tractor. I purchased 16 gallons during last fall Delvac rebates...

    Mobil1 5w-30, 4049 miles, GMC 5.3L V8

Try a 10w30 or 5w40 oil. 5.3 is just a high wearing engine, typical of GM v8s

    2014 Silverado 5.3, Magnatec 5w20, 7774.7mi

I have had 3 5.3 GM engines, including my current 2004 Yukom 5.3. They shed iron a lot, typical GM v8's. UOA doesn't look that alarming considering. I am currently running Amsoil 10w30 to see if it helps with the high iron numbers I see.

Looks like I'm moving back to shelf oil

I have used Amsoil for the past 20 years. I have 3 vehicles, I have went back to Mobil 1 due to it is much cheaper with rebates. The shipping with Amsoil is tough to get over even in Minnesota where i get my order next day I still continue to use Amsoil atf, gear oil and fuel additives which I...

Has anyone had oil-related issues during the polar vortex?

-35 over night temps in Prior Lake, MN during polar vortex. 2017 Ford Explorer 3.5 v6 sat outside all night NOT plugged in. Remote started it. It started within 3 seconds. Wasn't happy, but started lol. Was quite impressed. Oil: Amsoil OE 5w20 w/1 can of 2009 mos2 liqui moly Fuel: 88 octane...

What to look for specifcally when choosing a Ford Powerstroke oil?

It is almost disbelief that Mobil Delvac claims the Delvac 1 ESP 5W30 can handle drain intervals up to 100k miles!! I am guessing this is strictly for OTR rigs, still how is that possible with all the emissions stuff on newer diesels...

What to look for specifcally when choosing a Ford Powerstroke oil?

Appreciate the info Dnewton! I have had my 6.0 since new in 2007. I love it, its been bulletproofed (by bulletproof diesel in Mesa, AZ) now for 9 years now and not one single issue, currently 123k miles. I will never get rid of it. I have had good success with Delo 400 LE 5W30, averaging about...
