Ive just put 2000 miles on my new ZZ4 engine in my 85 Transam.GM suggets that after 2000 miles i should change from Dino to Synthetic.Ive always thought syn to be a bit thin on these older designed engines. My mate has a TVR that has a top end rattle with syn oil and when we drained it,it was...

After searching this site for the best mineral oil to run my new ChevyZZ4Small Block on,I finally decided on plain Castrol GTX 10W30.
Bear in mind this engine has only ever run on a dyno over in the US but i am told is fully broken in.
I want to make sure that I also go easy for a few hundred...
Ive checked with the local Texaco dealers and the only mineral oil is Havoline 15W40 premium.
Will 15W40 be Ok for my chevy.GM specifies 10w30 but this is proving difficult to find here in the UK
My only other option is Castrol GTX 15W40
what do you think??

Im not an oil guru like you guys but can I take this report as meaning Texaco Havoline would be good for all engines.Ive got a brand new chev 350ZZ4 which was broken in on the dyno in the states before shipping here in the UK.I want to put the best quality mineral oil in it.GM recommend 10W30 so...
brand new, just been on the dyno .I just feel these older design of chevy engine were delveloped prior to synthetic oil being readily available and are not suited to it.I'll be breaking it in because it probably had minimal running on the dyno just to break in the cam and get a performance print...
Oh yeah,forget the Lucas then!!
What about the Valvoline 15W50.
Bear in mind im in the UK so we dont have the high or low temps seen in the US.
My car wouldnt even get used in the months that the temp was below freezing and out hottest temps in the summer are about 30 degC or 86 deg F

My local store has just started stocking Valvoline VR1 15W/50 and also Lucas Oil stabiliser.
As you may have read on other postings,I'm looking for a good quality non synthetic oil for my brand new 350 Chev ZZ4(400 horsepower).
Whats your opinion on the Valvoline and the Lucas product?
thanks
