I would assume that contaminants in the fluid pile up in places. Also internals in the system break down and/or oxidize which can cause deposits.

Yes, on fbodies it is called the spindle/steering knuckle. It connects to the upper and lower control arms with balljoints and has the hub/bearing in the middle. Also connects to the tie rod end.

Some people recommended that i should change it and i hear dex cool is screwy. If i dont do the cam change i would most likely flush it anways first thing next summer. Does it matter having this original fluid sit that long?

I ended up shaving it off by hand (scalpel), one advantage i had was the leather was flexible and the superglue cracked when i bent it. I cracked it into 100s of pieces and scraped em off. As long as i keep the leather conditioned, you can't tell (I do this anyways).
