Try a oil filter magnet. It will hold the metal shavings along the side of the oil filter and your oil will run cleaner. I use one. They are a little pricy but they do work. I think I got mine at filtermag.com

Hempulator, I had the same problem as you. I was using M1-210 oil filter with Mobil 1 5w-30, and would hear the ticking on start up on very cold days. Decembers and Januarys. I changed to the motorcraft FL-820S oil filter. Same oil. No more loud ticking on cold start up in the dead of winter...

Big inconvenience but you saved yourself a ton of money with that extended warranty!

Footpounds, I know how you feel. I would be thinking the same thing. So, to have an enjoyable trip and not to be second guessing yourself change it out. I do the same thing. If I am going on a long trip I always put in new oil. Just make sure you recycle the used oil. It will get used again...

Try a Walmart.They have Motorcraft 5w-20 and 5w-30 synthetic blend for 1.88 a quart.
