DIY auto repair means not having to deal with obnoxious auto repair shop prices

To quote: Brake work is gravy for shops and flat rate techs. They beat the book time and come out ahead. On the other hand, I get it how they can lose on a job which is complicated with things going sideways and exceeding book time.

DIY auto repair means not having to deal with obnoxious auto repair shop prices

I just explained that if I did the whole thing spending about $300 in generic parts, a shop can surely match that. No, they would not be putting ACDelco Gold anything. Very simple job. I will go to a shop if there is a thing I can't handle. Which happens often enough. And even then would...

I didn't. I suppose I could have. What relevance does this have to my case? You can go as premium as you want, it's my second GMC Yukon 2007 with 200K on it.

DIY auto repair means not having to deal with obnoxious auto repair shop prices

I did not get AcDelco anything, just plaine Jane Advance Auto parts. The same stuff the shop would have used, I really doubt their estimate included premium parts. I spent $300 in parts, what is so hard to comprehend about that? It's AA/Autozone brands but works just fine for me. I've had a...

DIY auto repair means not having to deal with obnoxious auto repair shop prices

So I took my GMC Yukon Denali for an inspection, they shop said it had brake issues, quoted me $1300 to fix it. Upon examination, it ended up being all brake pads, 2 calipers, 2 rotors and bleeding the brakes. Got $300 in parts and did it myself in under 2 hours. Most of the time was spent...

Matco 1/2" ratchet: rubber vs metal handle

I gave away the broken ratchet to the mobile mechanic I was working with as a bonus, I hope he can fix it and keep it.

Matco 1/2" ratchet: rubber vs metal handle

I just broke my 24" 1/2" Matco ratchet, it was all metal. Trying to undo a wheel bearing 36mm nut. I had a strong feeling it would break but had no access to a bigger breaker bar. So now I am shopping for new tools. Trying to decide on a 30" to 36" breaker bar, either Matco or SK. Maybe a used...

Subaru Outback with 6 speed manual - which years of 2.5L had the HG issue resolved?

The above 2012 Subaru guy wrote back to me when I inquired about if any HG work has been done. is this true? There is no oil leak from the head gasket. Only time you replace the head gasket if there is an oil leak. If you are interested let me know. Thanks
