    2002 Blazer 4.3, Where's the oil???

UPDATE: 4 months/1000 miles ago, I did an oil change, added a bottle of Auto-Rx and replaced the PCV valve. There has been no perceptible oil consumption. Mileage has been short trips, in town. Waiting for daughter to go on a highway trip to see how that affects consumption.

    Bad valve guides?

I had a chance to speak with my mechanic. He did do umbrella and O-ring seals. He stated that the valve guides were loose in the heads. I will look for a couple of remanufactured heads if I can find a set cheaply. Otherwise, it is running great. I will just drive it until it dies!

What Year Did you Start Using Synthetic Motor Oil?

2005 or 2006. I purchased a new Dodge Grand Caravan in 2005. It was using .75 quarts of oil in 1200 miles. I began researching and found this site. That's when I started learning about oil. Synthetic oil did lessen the oil consumption problem.

    Bad valve guides?

I purchased the vehicle in about April 2015. The odometer broke in about April of 2016. I had put about 6k miles on it in a year. My driving habits are the same so I would guess current mileage to be about 130k. The truck runs great other than smoking burning a little oil!

    Bad valve guides?

So, before replacing the umbrella seals, the truck only smoked on start-up. Now it seems to be smoking all of the time. What about replacing the umbrella seals would make it start smoking all of the time?

    Bad valve guides?

I replaced the valve stem seals ony 1991 Chevrolet K1500; 4.3 V6. The mechanic stated that the valve guides are bad. I am no mechanic and don't know all of the ins and outs of engine mechanics. The engine seems to be smoking as bad as before or worse. What should I expect if I replaced the...

    Blending #1 & #2 diesel

A friend has a son that runs semis. He said that his son was told by the fuel supplier that #1 & #2 diesel fuel separates and doesn't blend. So his son just runs #2 with additives. Anyone else heard this in regards to recent diesel fuel products?

    Replaced the valve stem seals.

Would it be reasonable to assume that oil isn't leaking into the cylinders, the fuel is burning more efficiently producing more horse power and better fuel economy?

    Replaced the valve stem seals.

Don't know if it is in my head or real, but the truck seems to have a little more power and is more responsive to throttle input.

    Replaced the valve stem seals.

Didn't pull the heads. Just used air to hold the valves up.

    Replaced the valve stem seals.

1991 Chevrolet K1500, 4.3 V6, approximately 130k miles. I've owned this truck for about 6 years. The seals have been bad since I got the truck. Finally decided to have them replaced. Compression was good in all cylinders (140-170). Valve guides are a little worn. Other than no more blue smoke...

    Oil capacity???

How do automobile manufacturers determine how many quarts of oil are necessary for a given engine? I have a 1991 Chevrolet K1500 with 4.3 V6. Capacity is 5 quarts. My daughter has a 2002 Blazer with 4.3 V6. Capacity is 4.5 quarts.
