Why the need for oversized Filters?

I'm not sure why you'd care about the reasons behind why someone wants to use a bigger filter, unless you were thinking of doing it yourself. In my book the bigger the better when it comes to flow and filtration. You can't get around the physics of how some things work. I don't think it's the...

    Stop Playing Chemist

So, after using Pennzoil YB for 26 years, and, at the insistence of my father in law, switching to Castrol GTX for an oil change on all three of my cars; I can switch back to PYB and use the left over Castrol GTX for what gets burned in between oil changes?

Ok so is 1600 miles per quart good

I've talked to engineers as well as people in the industry and most, if not all, say the move to 5w20 is for fuel economy only. In fact, I've read that oil grade recommendations are different in the north American market versus overseas. I'm more than comfortable with the 5w30 I have in it.

Ok so is 1600 miles per quart good

Right, I haven't even bothered with the dealer route. I think 700 miles per quart is what they consider normal on the 3.8L. The 5W20 is too light for the 3.8L. It was introduced in '90 or '91 in the New Yorker and I believe they recommended 10W30 at the time. I've used the 5W30 since we've...

Ok so is 1600 miles per quart good

For your vehicle with that mileage, yeah, I'd say that's pretty good. I have a '03 Cavalier that is 5 quarts in and 5 quarts out. I run that to work during the week. I have an '09 Routan with the 3.8L V6 @ 40K miles running 5W30 and it's about 1400 miles to a quart. For the 3.8L Chrysler...

Do you guys trust Fram Ultra oil filters?

Some of this strikes me as: Company A makes 2,000,000 parts a year, of those 5000 come back as bad. Company B makes 200,000 parts a year and 3000 come back as bad. So company B produces the better quality, right?
