This too shall pass. However I am grateful I lucked out and bought 39qts of Amsoil before the initial price increase. But it has to be rough on most blenders that are not the big boys on the Walmart shelf.
My new 2026 PHEV uses:
Toyota Genuine e-Transaxle fluid TE
When I bought the car I asked the parts department what quantity it comes in and what it cost. They said 4L containers and $95ish cost wise. Mind you this is Canada and our weak $ prices. They never mentioned an availability problem...
It only hold 400ml/0.4 quarts. That isn't a huge amount and it will then be heavily diluted by the new oil. Do you really think I should change he filter too?
I actually bought that on sale, before the Amsoil. I ended up returning it because they weren't JASO GLV-1 licensed. Otherwise if they had been that would have stayed in the garage.
That is a very good point. And thank you for your input. Unfortunately before the monster almost 1100km drive, I won't go on any long enough trips to get a good enough idea of the oil temps. I am just gonna up it to 16 to be on the safe side with extreme summer hear and high rpm mountain...

This 2026 revision year...
I have some Amsoil on deck it was literally 50% of the price. However I bought 3 changes of Toyota 0W-8 for a baseline as I do my break in oil change in the future with a few more scheduled. Then I am off to Amsoil every 6 months and free oil change from Toyota every year.
Well just traded in my reliable 2018 Toyota Prius Prime for a 2026 Prius PHEV (Prime). I didn’t need a new car but the rebates and incentives made it a no brainer for myself.
The 23, 24, and 25 all speced 0W-16 and 20 in a pinch. This is the first year it speced 0W-8 and 16 in a pinch.
So gave...
