I use 3 qts M1 5w30 + 1 qt M1 15w50 in the winter, and 3qts 10w30 + 1 qt 15w50 in the summer. My saturn is a 97 SL1 with 109,000 miles. This thicker mixture seems to control the consumption a little better. I am at 1qt every 1.5k-2k miles with 7k intervals. The consumption is slow right after...
Maybe I can clear up the question here. I put one on my 97 SL1 and it would not hold the oil because it does not seat against the pan correctly. I use them on my ford truck and my honda crv without a problem, but the saturn will lose a quart a day if you keep it on. Fram told me they are working...
My 97 SL1 (1.9 SOHC) with 106,000 miles is pretty typical I think among saturns. I burn about 1qt every 4K-5K miles. I have been topping of with M1 15W-50 this last change, and that has seemed to slow it a bit.
I cant find it either. I finally decided to use M1 SS 5W-30 instead. I buy cheap 5W-20 and keep the receipts for warranty purposes and just use the 5W30.
I'll tell you what I do. I have a 02 Honda CRV that "requires" the 5W20 like your Ford. I buy the 5W20 and filter on the same day and keep the receipt. Instead, I use Mobil 5W30 SS. This costs me an extra $10 (5qts 5W20 @ $2/qt) because I buy twice the oil, but I have an original receipt proving...
I would idle it for the 10 minutes, but dont use the whole bottle of gunk if you have that much sludge. Maybe use 1/4 to a 1/3 of the whole application.
I think I still spent less than an Auto RX treatment. Two supertech filters cost $4, and the oil was below a $1 for each quart. Cant remember exactly but I believe each gunk bottle was $2 or so. Anyway no chunks came out when the oil was drained. The oil was very dirty on the first drain. The...
Thought you guys might want to know about a Gunk flush that I did last night:
1. Ran one bottle of Gunk for 10 minutes.
2. Drained oil, changed filter.
3. Refilled with oil and new filter
4. Added another bottle of gunk and ran for 10 minutes.
5. Drained oil, changed filter.
6. Ran a couple...
The funny thing was mine did too. I bought and installed it and lost over a quart of oil during the next week. I called fram and they said they dont make one for the saturn. The book is mistaken.
